I'm proud of furries for our long history of financially supporting artists, even if the stuff we ask them to draw is fucking disgusting 😜 .

Yeah people really don't hold back when it comes to commission requests, some real vile stuff

Have AI image generators decimated the furry art scene? From the furries I've known, I could see furries being more opposed to AI use than the population average, but then again, detailing your fantasies to a soulless machine will always be less embarrassing than describing them to another human being. There's a reason the porno theaters of yore were replaced with internet porn. Or is AI-generating furry porn even practical for the average user? Unrestricted local models certainly could. But those aren't as accessible as the big image generators. Do the filters on the big image generator sites prevent the creation of furry erotica?

AI is one of those things everyone's like "nooo" but half the people are like "yeah OK" when masturbating.

I can think of some others but anyway

You can easily subscribe to porn generating AI services. I would imagine it's much cheaper than working with an artist on commission. But I don't do either so that's the limit of my knowledge.

I stand by my principles: no AI slop for masturbating

They're mid at best. Some amalgamation of distilled stolen art style that has an uncanny sheen of fakeness in most I've seen. I've delved too deep anyways. Mid at best is not cutting it.

I imagine not, but I suppose I can't say for sure besides my own anecdotal evidence. I did much longer ago use AI for placeholder art for D&D (I had no money for comms, but I've since been able to support artists I care about). It struggled with just about everything humanoid that was not strictly human.

I don't have the answers for you unfortunately. I am personally opposed to image generating AIs for ethical reasons (art theft, basically), and I don't use them. But I'm also an amateur artist so I don't commission much art anymore, and I don't do commissions for other people either. Maybe someone else will have more of a read on the state of things?

Hell yeah, I’d rather draw explicit and very weird stuff for furries than ever make some bullshit corporate β€œart” or marketing garbage. It’s much more satisfying to make art for someone who will actually enjoy it

I see so many great artists wasting their talent drawing furries instead of dump truck mommies

[–] AscendantSquid@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago

They are not mutually exclusive; I'm sure if you had a quick look, you'd find plenty of furry dump truck mommies, it's one of the few blessings of our time.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

WTF are you talking about? Plenty of artists work for Pixar and Disney.

[–] Gormadt@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago

If they've got open commissions for a lot of them $20 is $20.

Most do have some restrictions on what they'll draw but drawing dump truck mommies is likely on their list of A-Okay subjects.
