I think it happened to Jim Dooley of the Bears in early 70's The only reason I say this because he was still in the organization when Ditka coached.
Chicago Bears
This isn't madden. If he's gone, he's gone.
The closest I can think of with us is Fangio interviewed to be the HC but still chose to stick around as DC when Nagy was picked.
After his bullshit of blaming the players and the stupid little joke he tried to make about his play calling, he can go fuck himself.
He coached scared get him outta here
Eberflus would get 4.5 mil per for the next two years if fired. If demoted it probably comes with a pay reduction as 4.5 mil for a DC might be a record salary.
If fired, he gets his money and the potential to get onto a staff elsewhere or another DC role.
Not sure, guess would be no bc the sheer amount of submission mentally that would take.
the last time our team played a game, we gave up two touchdowns in like 4 minutes and had a historic choke.
Found Eberflus's Reddit account
Brah the defense still isn't even that good. In fact, they're terrible.
Send Flus down the river. Dude should be coaching highschool football.
🤡
Why would anyone want Matt Eberflus near this team lol
Imagine how good this defense could be if we got some real coaches in here.
yes. Romeo Crennel was retained as DC for Mangenius taking over Chiefs
Eberflus is best suited to be DC. Agree 100%!!! But I do not know how you make that happen.
Imagine having a boss. He's a decent guy, but you can tell he's out of his element. You feel your job is constantly at risk because of his overall leadership. Whether it's his style, his approach, a combination of both, you know he's the answer.
But after 2+ years (which in my dumb hypothetical, could be considered 10 years, since 2 years is a long ass time for an NFL player), he's fired. He's replaced by another boss. But the former boss, who has been "done" for almost a year, is now your new boss' lieutenant.
Think about the chaos this would cause in the workplace. First, even if you loved your boss, having him stay is really awkward because he's no longer the boss. That's brings potential for the new boss to be hated.
Likewise, if you truly hated or at least loathed your old boss, but imagine still seeing him everyday and still having significant say in the business.
I made a joke before they should just make him the DC lol.
I would think the contracts make it tough. Most coaches still get paid after getting fired, so not much incentive to work a lesser job, and how would you rework the contract.
I don't see it happening, he'll DC somewhere else.
17 points in 3 minutes is improved?
I think that if they wanted to keep Eberflus, they’d probably do it this way. Hire a OC/asst. Head coach and give them complete autonomy over the offense. Have in essence two HC one for offense and one for defense. That was more or less done with Ditka when he was brought in. They retained Buddy Ryan and he had total control over the defense.
However, I can’t think of one really good offensive coordinator that would put up with that. Also, saw a very interesting interview with Wanny yesterday and when he coached, the HC would tell the coordinators at the end of the game what he wanted. If he wanted to run down the clock, he would tell his OC to run the ball, not tell the exact plays but rather that he wanted it ran. Same on defense. He’d tell them when he wanted to blitz or drop 8 into coverage.
So it’s likely not all on Getsy for the lack of aggression at the end. This is why I tend not to like defensive HC, too much “protect the ball nonsense.”
why are some of you so obsessed with keeping the worst head coach in franchise history. i genuinely don’t understand why there are so many posts every week about retaining eberflus. has this fanbase just been filled up with a bunch of losers who are ok with losing now? is it the 1985 heads thinking since eberflus is a old school defensive guy he has to be a good coach?
Have you ever smoked crack? The room is wondering…
