Hey thanks :)

Just figured out the other day that if you hold down the Numbers button of the keyboard, it will switch back once you stop holding it down. Pretty convenient if you need to quickly switch to number input and switch back.

[–] Aggressive-Bath-1906@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Oh shit! I never knew that! Thanks!

[–] GetReady4Action@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I somehow switched the dictation button out of my text box back to voice recording. don’t know how I did that, but was happy to get it back since having two buttons for dictation was stupid.

I knew about the gallery trick though, just wish it didn’t take forever on my 12.

In the messages app, tapping the Clock in the top left scrolls you back to earliest downloaded msg.

[–] leoneuer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But you still can’t attach files🤦🏻‍♂️

[–] skrlilex@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Could you ever attach files to sms?

[–] bcsteene@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OK thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!🙏

When watching something on Apple TV, long press the Dynamic Island and use the volume buttons to lower/raise the volume. Don’t have to swipe to find the remote, can stay in your current app. It’s so funky!!!!!

This was discovered during the betas of iOS 17 and when the RC was pushed out several tech sites and YouTubers pointed out this feature. Here’s one of them back in September: https://9to5mac.com/2023/09/20/ios-17-imessage-apps-photos-more/

[–] MoistDef@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wow. Thank you for this.

[–] TryEasySlice@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Oh Christ thank you so much

[–] bigblackshaq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, welcome to the party.

[–] Dust-by-Monday@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I think that button should automatically pop when you long press it. Right now you have to guess when it's okay to let go because it will currently let you hold it forever.

[–] 981032061@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah I’m getting the same thing. Has to be a bug right?

[–] helloharu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The message input moves and stretches outwards to indicate when you can let go.

[–] Dust-by-Monday@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It stretches immediately and if you let go too fast it will open the normal menu

[–] switch8000@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Thank you!!!!! That’s an awesome shortcut!

[–] Rakn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

That's nice. Now I just need to find someone who actually uses iMessage...

[–] schaudhery@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Every iPhone user in America. We don’t have to rely on Facebook’s app to chat.

I sat turning up my volume for way too long before I realized what you meant lol.

[–] rmajor86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s handy!

[–] lalavieboheme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If you disable dictation, voice memos is moved to the right of the text box in messages (I'm on iOS 17, iPhone 15 Pro).

It looks like this.

[–] MohammadAG@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You don’t need to disable dictation, it defaults to the last feature you used. So keep dictation on if you use it in other apps, and just send a voice memo and it should stick to that.

[–] SexiestPanda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wife is happy to learn this. Thanks

[–] dramafan1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Mind blown...iOS features have gotten to the point where I figure most of the daily useful features here or through any unofficial sources.

I was today years old when I learned this.

[–] marxcom@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

In iOS 16 the gallery was just one tap away tho.

[–] hawk_ky@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is technically one tap

[–] TurkFan-69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One taaaaap

[–] RedDeadCore@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wow, what an innovation!

[–] FraudGoblin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Would be nice if hitting that + button gave you a little feedback vibration when opening the gallery.

[–] GooseInternational66@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It does on my phone. Do you have haptics turned off?

[–] pvalverdee@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I didn’t know this. I just tried and it works. Thanks a lot.

[–] pasm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That has saved me almost an hour a year of my life!

[–] pdhouse@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iOS has so many of these small things I have no idea about.

[–] rutu235@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I abs hate the new box list and ui of iMessages text box and where voice memos is now. Idk why they refuse to copy or be inspired by the way whatsapp with voice messages it’s so much better and easier to use. Even ios 16 iMessage was better than this iteration with the exception of the newly added voice message transcription. This iOS 17 iMessage user experience is just too many taps to get where u need and so clunky.

[–] kinglucent@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When editing portrait photos, you don’t have to reach up to the top left to switch between depth and Portrait Lighting – you can just tap the F icon along the bottom tray to switch!

Thank you 🥹 I wish they would have left it how it was, but this is a nice compromise 🥹
