W is a W, I’ll take it. Bears fans will complain about anything lol
Chicago Bears
Im glad we don't have to listen to the "haven't won an nfcn game in 2 years" talking point anymore!
Defense looked solid. Terell Smith looked good for just slotting in last night. Offense looked like an offense that has absolutely never even thought about planning for the blitz and just said "uh......screen?"
We hadn't won a game since Elon bought Twitter and hadn't beat a division rival since Betty White died. Two dark moments in human history.
Im glad we don't have to listen to the "haven't won an nfcn game in 2 years" talking point anymore!
It's not a talking point - it was the truth. One win doesn't really change it. We went from not being able to beat the Packers to not beating anyone in the division.
And I get it, context matters. We went through a rebuild. But if you're going to win games at all, winning division games are appreciated.
Grayson McCall is supposably the best pocket passer in the draft. He's a 4 year starte at Coastal Carolina, going 38-11.
I would trade down and get MHJ and OL or DL and take McCall in the 2nd round (which would be acquired from the trade. I know he's not the big name QB but fact is Caleb is Fields, Nix, Penix Jr., and Sanders aren't it, and Drake has his own issues.
Fire Getsy: There's more than 1 way to beat pressure. Screens are an option, but so are swing passes and quick slants. Our predictability held us out of the endzone.
Fire Flus: Look, the D has stepped up since he's taken over playcalling, but the overall gameplan and discipline still fall to him to control. Too many conservatively called games and penalties.
Fields: Honestly, could take or leave. Solid coaching could do him a world of good, but that ship might have sailed. Best options to draft are Williams/Maye/MHJ in that order. Draft appropriately with the Panthers pick.
This is where I am at as well. The first two are painfully obvious.
I've been a fields supporter and think that he could have been it with good coaching. Imagine how differently he would have been under Andy Reid for example. But it's been so long that he's just learned too many bad habits, so whether he was never going to be it or not, he just might be beyond saving and so it's time to move on.
Yesterday was the perfect “reinforce your prior opinion on Justin fields” game. Played solidly on scripted drives, took the Bears down and put together a go ahead scoring drive, but also held the ball too long, looked jumpy in the pocket at times and fumbled the ball away twice in the 4th quarter. He gets credit for the throw to Moore and a few plays here and there but I think it’s net negative. Bears should’ve won by at least two scores yesterday and a lot of that is on the quarterback
But a lot of that is also on Getsy I mean Jesus Christ enough with the screens. I get the Vikings like to bring pressure but it was obvious they knew it was coming and he never adjusted. Screens aren’t the only way to beat blitzes, but again we get this super conservative predicable game plan that doesn’t at all utilize what your quarterback does well.
This is once again the problem with not having your HC/QB in sync. The coaching staff is coaching for their jobs while the FO is trying to evaluate a young QB that the coaching staff clearly doesnt trust to do anything other than basic one read plays. Maybe the fact that the staff doesn’t trust Fields to air it out is ultimately the answer on him but I don’t trust that these fucking idiots know that for sure. They’re just spineless
Also, no slants. It's so weird. Dj Moore YAC God and yet no timing routes anywhere to be seen.
I also wonder if there is a bit of Jon Lester Syndrome to opposing DCs. Like, Lester wasn't going to throw over to first, yet people were still scared. you know the bears are going to run screens, you know it. Yet I don't see a lot of press man? It's weird.
There were plenty of plays with slant routes. They usually ended up with Fields running around in the backfield.
Quick hit plays that require precise timing are Fields' biggest weakness and he misses the window every time.

Three years on and every game he plays is still open to interpretation. That is the hallmark of a decent backup QB in the NFL.
One thing I noticed with Fields last night, is that when scrambles due to pressure, he tries to find a receiver downfield for as long as possible. Last season, when scrambled from pressure (which was nearly every play), he'd just take off running. I wonder if that's something that came from Eberflus & Getsy or him trying to be more of a passer than runner?
It’s very noticeable.
I’m glad he does it but it does increase the risk of him fumbling
Whether Fields is the Qb for the bears next year or he’s traded we should all hope he finished the year strong. It benefits both ideas. Hopefully he’s alright after that no call hit to the head. That was nasty.
Getsy is hands down the worst offensive playcaller in the league at this point. That being said, i think if we are picking in the top 2 we are definitely moving on from Fields. Im a big Fields fan, but he does make a lot of questionable decisions on the field. I think when it comes to gambling on a QB, you go with the younger one on the cheaper contract (a rookie). No guarantees Maye or Williams will work out, but i think expecting a 4th year QB to finally break out is unrealistic next year. Now for the good, the defense has been playing lights out lately. Besides whatever the hell the final 3 minutes of the Detroit game was, they have really stepped it up. Flus called an aggressive gameplan on that side and i am all for it.
I can't imagine them passing on MHJ at this point for a QB with pick # 1, and at this point their second pick is looking to be in the 5-8 range and the QB you'd look at will be gone by then, I think the Cuter... errr Fields show lives on another year
That wasn't really an offensive game plan last night. I would be really curious who is mostly responsible for the plan and the plays that are allowed into that plan.
It seemed ultra conservative to a point that it seemed like a defensive coordinator made the plan against a defense that he feared more than he had confidence in his own offense.
I need to know who is responsible so I can have an opinion on who has to go.
I say we do what the Texans did: pass on one of the top QBs and build around our Davis Mills for another year.
#his name is TERELL
Roschon Johnson is the real deal and needs to be involved heavily in gameplan moving forward
Agreed. Looked good on his carries and the effort level pushing Kmet for the first down is exactly the attitude we need!
What was with the penalty calling? We went from being under a microscope in the first half to almost no flags flying at all in the second half. Did Goodell personally call the refs tear them a new one?
Ref ball was keeping Dobbs in the game
The Vikings defense has challenged some good offenses. And.
How does this team just have no antidote to cover 0.
I feel like yesterday was a typical Bears game if I've ever seen one. Good defense (albeit a backup QB) and ridiculously bad offense). I don't even think the Bears won, one side just lost more slowly. Some thoughts
-Yesterday was another example that the coaching staff needs to go. But as the season goes on I am getting a greater feeling that Flus may stay. There is no doubt Getsy is going but I don't know. He should go. Right now he has 7 wins in 2 seasons. There is no reason to keep him. I get the defense is playing well now but we actually do have talent on that end so they should be playing well.
-
Getsy has to be trying to get fired mid-season right? I have never seen a game plan like that. I get the Vikings blitz often but man it becomes so predictable. Maybe at least throw a slant in there. It was really bad. We've seen some bad offenses here and bad offenses due to coaching but man the offense yesterday didn't even get a chance to suck.
-
You win the turnover battle by 4 and you fail to score a TD and win on a game winning FG. That should be a fireable offense. Another reason to fire Flus - yes they won, but I would say that this coaching staff just doesn't know how to win and it's rubbing off on the QB.

We can finish the season out with Fields and we will but it's becoming more and more clear that it's time to move on. Fields is not a great receiver away from being a top 10 QB. A lot of this is on the Bears but there's just too much inconsistency with Fields. One play he is amazing, throws a dome the next 5 he's missing receivers, holding on to the ball too long and has bad accuracy. It can get fixed, and if we were in a season where we probably didn't have two top 5 picks maybe you give him a chance and pick up his 5th year. But that is not the case. At some point, regardless of bad play calling, great QBs still find a way to shine through and he's only done that in bits and pieces. But I am looking forward to him picking it up the rest of the year.
I thought 26pts off 4 TO’s last week was BAD.. wow. Still psyched that we got the win though, go Bears!
Fields now has more all-time wins than Trubisky’s worst season (2020, 6-3) when he missed 6 games due to injury. To the moon!
Game ball goes to the D, they stepped up big time:
- Sweat has turned the DL around. Dude's a monster.
- Turns out Dexter was a good second-round choice after all. He trails only Carter as the best rookie DLineman.
- TJ Edwards is a tackling machine. He was solely responsible for killing a few important drives for the Vikes.
- Terrell Smith may be a diamond in the rough. He looks comfortable and tackles really well.
- Hey, look; it's Tremaine Edmunds.
- Jaylon Johnson, you are ridiculous.
- The Flus was loose. He threw in a lot of creative pre-snap looks which was pleasantly surprising.
I've been waiting for a defensive performance like that all year. It felt doubly good making the flavor-of-the-month QB look human after all.
Edmunds played better, but still missed some important tackles, it's bizarre the amount of tackles he loses to a guy of his size.
I’m glad I was working.
Glad for the W, but if I watched another game of screentasturbating plays calls and 0 TDs off turnovers it might have broken me.
Did you actually believe people when they said they didn’t care about how Fields played against the Lions or the Broncos and just wanted him to show us he could win?
Me neither.
I really think Dexter, Pickens and Terell Smith all flashed last night. I have been a Poles skeptic but this last draft class is looking pretty solid.
Montez Sweat will be a solid core for our Defense going forward.
Just about everyone leveled up after he came on board. impactful player of the year for the Bears and on field numbers are the least of his contributions.
Lot of work to be done, but we may have ourselves a core unit. It pains me, but perhaps Eberflus stays and develops his DC talent/heavy hand in the defense?
Getsy has to go for sure. I accept that the man might have QB limitations, but all in all his squad failed to improve and, in many respects, regressed.
Fields, it's not all his fault, and in many ways, I feel for the guy. I don't see the scenario where he improves HERE I think this experience for multiple reasons was too much for him. Do I think he will move on and ball out? No. Do I hope he does? Yes, 100%.
What's up with Herbert? Johnson looks great, but I liked that 1-2 punch...he good?
Fire Getsy. Please. I need a good night sleep.
I got to thinking last night…scary I know. We see JF continuing to take advantage of zone defenses, last night’s game winner to DJ is another example. It seems to me that he struggles in man to man when the defense tends to be bringing pressure with exotic blitzes. Am I crazy to think that a team’s lack of separation from the skills position is exactly why a QB struggles in man to man. Isn’t that why a QB would hold the ball and sometimes struggle since he doesn’t see or believe his WR will win the 50/50 or get open? Isn’t the cure for this better WRs (i.e. MHJ or another WR1)? I get the meatball take - Fields bad…fire everyone and Mickey Mouse for any reason, just looking for a nuisance discussion.
The fact that Getsy still has a job after last night is downright criminal.
I'm happy that we won, but I'm kinda sad that the Lions are going to win the division now. "The Bucs have won the division more recently than the Lions" is about to be a dead meme.
I had a lot of flashbacks of the Cutler / Marshall combo last night where Fields / Moore couldn’t connect on any medium+ down field throws. I felt there were half a dozen times that Getsy called the same play, just flipped formation, and the Vikings just stuffed it.
I’m in the camp of keeping Flus, but only if he shifts to DC, otherwise he needs to go. Getsy should be let go today. The play call schematic from last night is embarrassingly 80%+ at the line of scrimmage to less than 5 yards.
I’m exhausted on the JF1 topic throughout the past several weeks on this sub, and even Aikman saying JF1 is auditioning last night is beyond annoying and doesn’t allow for us all to enjoy the game. I see a lot of stats that favor or put JF1 even keel when compared to Mahomes, Hurts, etc on specific situations, even though JF1 is not apples to apples to those QBs. So I do believe the potential is still there, but the play calling is not consistent and does not compliment our players’ talents all the time. Just seems like a lot of blame is always on JF1 but other QBs don’t receive as much and get passes on fault.
No one here seems to be talking about all the penalties we had to fuck up the interception momentum or the fact that the Vikings are number 1 for blitzing.
Can we talk about how Wright has almost cost us a third game now by giving up a critical strip sack?
Getsy's thought process: "Vikings blitz. Screen beats blitz. Getsy like screen. Getsy call many screen and Bears will win!"
We didn't lose draft position. Double plus good
