Good lord this screenshot hurts my eyes. Use dark mode for goodness sake

[–] wason@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Light mode during the day, dark mode at night

[–] SorryQuick@lemmy.ca 41 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m reading this at night though. Think of all the poor souls that will get flashbanged in the next few hours.

[–] Asudox@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

I'm a victim

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not that it matters but it’s a little insane that 8 people thought to downvote you because of how you choose your theme settings.

Like I’m dark mode on everything at all times, but I won’t downvote you for being different. Some folk be wack.

Lol

We use the same app AND settings

(For anyone who's curious: the app's "Eternity for Lemmy", the ~~predecessor~~ successor of "Infinity for reddit")

[–] Star@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

predecessor

I think you meant successor.

[–] SeekPie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Yeah, thanks. Fixed it.

Doesn't that mean your brightness is set too high?

[–] Johanno@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago

No your Mode is wrong!

[–] comrade19@lemmy.world 53 points 2 years ago (2 children)

So that's how it happens. I thought I was getting old when I had to look up 'based' on urban dictionary.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 45 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Thank god for that website, I can't imagine being an aging millennial in 1980 with all the kids talking about "radical" this and "cowabunga" that and not have anything to look up.

[–] Pizzasgood@kbin.social 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Cowabunga" shouldn't have been a mystery to them, at least, because it originates from Howdy Doody in 1949.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wow. I totally thought it was just a Ninja Turtles thing. Thanks for that info.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Ninja Turtles got it from 60's surfer slang (since that's how Michelangelo speaks) and gave it new life for a few years.

Pretty based of you to admit.

This post is the first time that I realized reply lines were in rainbow order.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Is it really pronounced "dub"? I've never heard it spoken.

[–] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I internally say massive win but I do hear youtubers call it massive double u

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Ironic that pronouncing a single letter is more cumbersome than the full word.

"Every single other letter is one syllable, can we just pronounce this one 'wuh'"?

"No, it must have THREE!"

[–] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

English is indeed a funny language.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Germans: "Ridiculous! We will pronounce it like 'vay'".

"Well, that's a lot..."

"...AND 'Y' WILL BE 'OOPSILON'"!

Every single other letter

Noooo, you forgot "and z" has two /s

[–] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I call it zed or zee both have one syllable ri8?

[–] prayer@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Yeah, unless it was a really important win, then you might say it out entirely to emphasize your utter dominance over them.

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 years ago

I always hear it as double u

[–] Prater@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago
[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

Bright mode? [Hiss.]

[–] bin_bash@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The moment when we change to dark mode and then we need to see shit posts with big white screenshots

[–] glibg10b@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago

I was there when it was written

[–] ako946659663@lemm.ee 9 points 2 years ago

So this is why Golden State Warriors are called "Dubs"! Today I learned.

The nickname comes from people shortening Warriors to the letter W. The shorter form of the letter W is pronounced "Dub." It also helps that W represents the word "win" in the world of sports, so when their fans refer to them as the Dubs, they are also referring to the team as winners.

[–] sour@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)
[–] prayer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Still a dub

[–] Bene7rddso@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Latin didn't have the letter U, so they wrote V when they said U

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Hey! I’ve been invited to sports before. Some people think that me being large, tough, and angry would make me good at roller derby, unfortunately I’m also uncoordinated even when sober

[–] lapommedeterre@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago
[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

noun-pilled.

[–] radioactiveradio@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Was this when all the Johns in the world assembled into a field to fight?
