A refurbished phone had typically been tested and works like new, regardless of where you buy it. I would return the phone, it doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to and it’s certainly not refurbished.

I am retired. Your 13 Pro would work just fine for somebody like me. During set up, I would have declined Face ID as unneeded so I would never have known.

You might feel that it’s not a big deal but considering that you don’t have the option to use fingerprint, you’ll have to use your passcode every time and it’s not a generally good practice to keep putting in your password in public. Further FaceID enables a you to do the things way faster like Apple Pay and also a lot of apps allow you to use FaceID as a way to lock the apps. You’ll miss out on a lot of the features.

I don’t think you got what you paid for and therefore should return it.

It’s hard to believe there is any good reason for that camera to not be functional if the phone is in good condition. I worry it’s indicative of a bad drop and other problems down the road.

Could it be some aftermarket camera on the front that they put in there?

Apple does sell refurbished 13 Pros, they just don't have any in stock at the moment. It sounds like you bought a broken and used iPhone 13 Pro that looks okay, but I definitely would not consider it refurbished.

I would return it -- you'll need to enter a passcode any time you unlock the phone, open certain apps, using Apple Pay, etc. Face ID is essentially seamless in use and you would be missing out on the actual ease of using an iPhone with Face ID.

FaceID is not only to unlock your iPhone. The wallet, all the payment, the password, etc. All these features makes FaceID very useful. So, take the iPhone you have paid for.

They sell 13s for more than a year...

Such a big deal breaker that I even upgraded my 13 pro max to iPhone 15 plus just because my Face ID was not working anymore

Honestly, Face ID is incredible so I wouldn’t settle for lack of it.

As for Apple, refurbished 13s do pop up sometimes, but you have to be quick. I managed to snag a refurb 13 Pro in September and it was like new.

I just don't like to pay money for "defect" or broken product. Moreover typing in pin everytime you want to use the phone is such a hassle you ended up set up an unsafe simple pin.

Face ID not working likely means they used shitty parts to refurb

just return it, i only accept refurbish with minor stretch but full functional.

If you paid a very good price,and don't mind not having face ID than I would keep it.

Dealbreaker if this were me. I’m one of those people that wants everything to work even if I don’t use it, because I paid for it. Now if it were free, or ridiculously cheap, maybe I could let it slide.

Face ID is too useful for me though, I could never have a phone without it, Apple or otherwise.

For me, Face ID is a major part of the Apple experience. It’s a must have.

For me it would be a big deal. The depth camera is not only used for FaceID but also for awareness features (lowers volumes of alarms or doesn‘t let the screen dim as long as you‘re looking at your phone). It might also be used for Portrait Mode on the front camera but I‘m actually not too sure about that. The biggest issue with this is that you paid for a working phone but got a defective one. Also trust me when I say that FaceID is amazing and you stop thinking about unlocking your phone because it already is unlocked the second you look at it.

Face ID is a pretty big part of the convenience that iPhones with Face ID provides.

Like others here, you didnt get what you kind of paid for. I would return it.

Return it. Face ID is a critical feature. Could lead to front camera problems too. Also means no Apple Pay. If you ever want to trade it in, it would fail diagnostics and you might not be able to.

My Face ID on the X did that. It was in my pocket during a torrential downpour. It got wet, and had to be replaced. Fortunately, it was covered under AppleCare.

Why would you wanna pass on a core component feature of an Iphone? You don’t know what you are missing out on…

I love my TouchID

It is a big deal. Take it From someone who thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. The FaceId works in a way that with time you forget to notice it is there.

Dealbreaker for me. I love face ID. I am too lazy to write my password every time. I was also heartbroken when I realized that after iPhone X the touch ID is not a thing. But tbh I am going to return the phone if I were you.

Return it. You bought the phone. It’s not working 100%. And yes faceID is a huge deal. You’re gonna miss touchID every time you open your banking app, WhatsApp etc.

Oh yeah it is bruh. But this is about your money's worth too. You better get a brand new ip13 than a refurbished ip13pro if you are really strict with your budget. Brand new is only the best deal.

Send it back. Face ID is the least of your worries. If the camera has been tempered with by whoever sold it to you, you'll have a major privacy concern.

I use faceID more than I ever thought I’d need to. For password filling, especially. Last April I had to replace the FaceID and thanks to Apple care+ and warranty a $300 charge was free.

Not a chance would I keep it. It would immediately get returned.

Honestly once you’ve experienced Face ID, the whole pin system feels so outdated and slow

I love Face ID and it’s miles better than Touch ID. I would hate typing in a passcode every time. If you got a good price and want to you can get the phone repaired to use face id
