Awful article. They're adding "Advanced settings" to a specific app called Dev Home, not to Windows.

It's a shame, XDA has become a trash site. :/

I would expect better from xda to be honest, considering most of the early days in android rooting and roms really took off on their forums

[–] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yeah, and then people moved half of the ROM discussion to... Telegram channels?

[–] BearOfaTime@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

Fucking telegram channels. Ephemeral. Ugg.

[–] Caligvla@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 years ago

Any ideas where most of the android rooting community gathers now or is it still on XDA?

Corporate needs you to find the difference between"Advanced Windows Settings" and "Control Panel"

They're the same picture.

[–] absquatulate@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

Ah, but you see, they are not the same. Control Panel is an archaic tool that lets you configure your windows quickly and efficiently. The new and improved AWS will be designed from the ground up to waste your time and discourage tweaking. It will probably obfuscate some settings, quietly remove some settings, track your usage, etc.

are they finally replacing some of those legacy screens?

its funny how theyre 'planning' feature parity to an ancient product. it shows you how incomplete this crap is coming out the door.

That's a weird name for the group policy editor

[–] ichbinjasokreativ@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

They took most customization away from 10 to 11 and now slowly try to bring some of them back.

Omg, how many panels? Old-fashioned control panel, the mmc voodoo, the system settings introduced (IIRC) in version 8, regedit, PowerShell, and this.
