If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

WINNER: BLAKISTON'S FISH OWL 66-61

Sooty Owl managed to defeat Eurasian Eagle Owl in an upset that still has people stunned. "The Goth Owl" got a ton of positive response on its tournament premier, but will that carry over to this week?

The BFO shook off the burden of smaller being better by walking away with a win over the sweet Tawny Owl. The "Big F'n Owl" is hoping to pull off another win today. The other fish owl, the Buffy Fish Owl had become very popular in its 2 matches, can the Blakiston's Fish Owl capitalize on that popularity?

Will the largest owl in the world come out on top, or will the dark side prevail? Upvote your favorite!

If you're going to be handling a raptor that big, you want it to be chill!

#3 is me getting up for work the day after getting baked.

Thoroughly baked at 200 (fan) for 90 minutes.

It does!

Some people find the Tytos a little creepy. I used to be this way. I wanted to find a pic of them looking more cute than solely playing up the Goth Owl title it's picked up in this tournament.

This one is too tough for me because they are awesome in such different ways.

The amazing thing about fish owls is how they can breathe underwater using hidden gills. Some researchers speculate that the species evolved from a freakish and sick romance between an owl who caught a salmon and instead of eating it, fell in love and started a long-term relationship with it, eventually having 6 kids, a dog and a house in the suburbs.

Is there a secret Lovecraftian cult infiltrating SuperbOwl and promoting the fish owls??? 😮

That would explain a few things... but I fear I may have said too much!

Come on Sooty!! I love the black eyed owls.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

The black eyes is really the only color that works with to complete its whole look. I can't imagine it with yellow or orange.

The yellow eyed owls though really say "I'm tough enough I don't care if you see me in daylight" though.

I'm always a sucker for orange eyes though, they're just so unique.

From the thumbnail I thought the owl on the right was double cheeked up lol

It does have a good front peach going on!

There have been a few booty shots in the tournament so far. Some owls are willing to do whatever it takes to win!

I can't look at that first photo of the fish owl with his drunk all knowing eyes and not vote for him
