Not sure if that renders the same for everyone, but I'm very tired of seeing the big emoji letter usernames. Is there an option to convert these usernames to ASCII or otherwise not render them? If not, could this be something that could be implemented? I don't want to resort to blocking everyone, but I may if there's no other choice. It's very visually annoying and distracting.

it's "display name" being presented instead of "username", and converting the unicode code to ascii is moot, in my opinion.

Maybe a better solution is providing the toggle option in settings to switch presentation between "display name" or "username".

A more dynamic option that shows the username if the display name isn't ASCII-only would be great.

Kolanaki, what are your thoughts?

Emoji size is directly correlated to dick size

Is Boost already doing this? I feel like I used to see them a lot, but they disappeared a few months back.

I'm with you, they ruin the flow of information.

They should be (and have been) banned entirely categorically.

I think I would like a toggle between usernames and display names. Let people do whatever customization they want but then you can disable it to see just the plaintext username if you (like me) prefer the simplicity.

It's still killing me right now, in fact, that the setting to disable user avatars isn't sticking in the current version. I prefer to keep all of my Lemmy browsing impersonal so as to prioritize the content and the discussion over the personalities.

How do you feel about regular emoji names
