Military people are your age now, they like anime, the demographics of anime cons line up with their recruiting goals. That's why they are there.
They didnt hire a Misato cosplayer, they had a cool rotating selfie booth because the army has infinite murder money and can use it on whatever and this person probably just wanted to use it.
It's times like this I wish the military would just do the efficient and more humane thing and just build an actual meat grinder and just funnel new recruits straight into it; that way they still recycle the human trash without killing a whole bunch of strangers in a foreign country.
