Never play music for someone unless you’re 100% sure they’ll love it. Otherwise, just give a recommendation and let them listen to it in their own time.

It’s difficult to enjoy something that’s been sprung on you with someone waiting for your validation. Unless you’re drunk or high.

Being on the receiving end of that is the worst. If you really don't like the music, you feel like you need to lie and say it's cool to protect their feelings.

I mean my best friend and I enjoy showing each other new songs but we're secure enough in our music tastes to not take it personally if a song doesn't jive with the other person. It's a nice way to find new music since our tastes overlap enough that we usually like a few of the same songs.

Yeah, I had someone play some Snarky Puppy for me once. Straight up felt uncomfortable listening to it with them staring at me, but said it was alright.

Went away and listened to it again and loved it. Even if it’s good, it’s difficult to get into with someone breathing down your neck.

Once a girl I was dating played Death Cab For Cutie for me and I hated them so much I kinda wanted to break up with her. Years later I got into The Postal Service (same singer) and eventually gave Death Cab another listen and I was like ... shit this is good. Oh well, it is what it is.

Unless you’re drunk or high.

Or just right about how awesome the music is....

That's true, unless you're really close. I got some people I can just regularly share things I listen with. Even if it's not absolutely their taste or they don't like every bit, it's just still nice.

This is amplified by 10 of its music you made.

Ahh the Kanye approach.

I was at an Arby's drive-thru one time playing an electronica song I'd composed on my car stereo. The girl taking my order liked it and said "who is that song by?" I was about to tell her when she said "it sounds like that one guy ... his name starts with a Y". I said "you mean ... Yanni?" "YEAH!" I was crushed.

My parents wanted to listen to what I've been composing and my dad said that it sounds like Beethoven. I'm like 99% sure that he meant it sounds like that in style, not that I'm a prodigy composer, but I'll still take it as a compliment. 🙃

Unpretty by TLC.

I can't unhear the godawful screeching the guitar makes everytime it slides to another note.

This but with movies and TV shows.

I was listening to Bleed the Wicked Menace's Body Bags with someone else in the room the other day and they pointed out shortly after the thirty second mark when he says "Wake 'em up to a Micheal mask screaming" the Loud Nigra meme of OG Mudbone loudly "finishing" plays silently in the background.

Here's a Youtube clip of the song at around the thirty second mark for those that want to hear it. You might need headphones to make it out though. Here is the meme for reference.

It's all I can focus on now whenever I hear the song.

Reminds me of when I tried to introduce a person to symphonic metal by playing The Poet and the Pendulum.

I am a bit concerned that they didn't react at all to the rape part
