Been watching PWHL - it's free on Youtube! It's amazingly good hockey and broadcasting is generally really well produced as well. I'd love to see the league grow and for that they need money. Wish there was a way to do that without dropping into the dirty pit dubious bedfellows that the NHL keeps, but unfortunately I think that might be a hard ask at this point.

this is potentially the last social identity you have to create.

..as long as you stay centralized on the central BlueSky instance. Once you move out to a (potential, future) federated server, that identity (and it's super duper verification) doesn't follow you.

The thing is, if Leafs ever make it to final, or god forbid win the cup, the Toronto media is going to be absolutely fucking insufferable for the next 50 years. And we can't have that.

So I'm sorry. You can't win.
But I do feel for you fans though.

From decentralised perspective the verification data is stored in the verifiers PDS rather than having the verified-certificate in the subjects PDS which means this particular check is always for the official BlueSky server only and won’t be federated anywhere else. Other potential servers are free to implement their own (potentially different!) local verification scheme with it, but it’s never going to be network wide and it never federates anywhere except the server where it’s implemented.

This is why I commented earlier about their decision to move to ”traditional” social networking space and away from decentralised networking

I think at this point it's pretty clear that BlueSky is in the traditional social media business instead of being in the decentralized social media business.

Maybe that's a good decision for BlueSky, they certainly seem to have the growth at the moment, but I think we probably have to forget the dreams of it ever pushing the decentralization angle again.

At least it wasn’t an empty netter.

I use Firefox on my Android to access Bluesky. It's much better than their official app, because Bluesky notifications are hell on earth.

It's spez so of course they're going to go for NSFW subs. Pretty sure that'll just cause people to move to Onlyfans and other, already NSFW platforms.

Can't really see anyone paying for sub access apart from porn.

All of them have really bad audio and as such, they're completely useless.

Pulling this off requires high privileges in the network, so if this is done by intruder you're probably having a Really Bad Day anyway, but might be good to know if you're connecting to untrusted networks (public wifi etc). For now, if you need to be sure, either tether to Android - since the Android stack doesn't implement DHCP option 121 or run VPN in VM that isn't bridged.

My current Dell XPS 13 has been my trusty old companion for the past 4.5 years and I'm very happy with it.
Inevitably, the battery isn't what it used to be anymore - it won't reach full charge anymore and discharges in 2-3 hours of normal use (webrowsing, coding etc).

I could replace the battery, but at 4.5 years, I guess it's time for an upgrade.

My general requirements:

  • Good Linux support
  • Portable (13-14")
  • Great battery life
  • Good keyboard
  • A nice screen that doesn't have too much glare
  • At least 16Gb RAM / 1Tb SSD

This is my work machine so I'm not especially budget-sensitive.
Durable build would be awesome, I travel quite a lot and it gets banged around in my bag.
I work in cybersecurity and do coding, so it doesn't need "content creator" features. The less "bells and whistles", the better.
I'd love a microSD-card slot.
I think I'd melt of happiness if it also has a HDMI port.
I don't game on this machine (except chess.com, lol) , so don't really need gfx performance.
I don't need touchscreen or 2-in-1 functions.
Reasonable mic/cam - but I think that's pretty much given on a modern high-end laptop..

I'm thinking I'm probably going with new Dell XPS 13 or some ThinkPad variant, but I'd be happy to hear some suggestions and experiences (both good and bad) of recent purchases from the community.

Ps. Framework/System76 don't ship here. Unfortunately. I'm stuck with the big-corpo brands.
