This was a treat for a fan and someone who played the originals when they were new. Well-made high resolution update to graphics, wonderful new versions of the music by Klepacki & The Tiberian Sons and so many extras. Loved seeing all the takes of the live action videos.

I do think a lot of that goes on with phones already but I will say there are certain situations where the person recording can't do it so well with a phone. Such as when they're actively interacting with whoever they want to video.

I don't think Glass ultimately failed because of that. It was a limited device that made the wearer look like a member of the borg.

well I think the strongest case can be made for blind/deaf users that can benefit from the glasses being able to observe on their behalf and give them the information they otherwise could not have auditorily/visually.

Meta now has a new model that includes a display also. It's arguable whether that technically qualifies as AR but people do tend to look at these as part of the category.

The Meta glasses do have a blinking LED that signifies that recording is active. It's a white instead of red LED though. It also has a light sensor that is meant to prevent the user from covering the light.

MSC Cruises is the latest one to ban smart glasses and this may be becoming more and more of a problem for people using them.

Previously in Egypt tourists have reportedly been blocked from going to see the pyramids and some museums there also ban them. Saudi Arabian authorities apparently confiscate them at the airport from arriving passengers. Anyone who needs a prescription needs to consider that they may not be able to use them everywhere.

Doesn't get me that excited... The Bsky team is not doing much to help it decentralize and the architecture tends to make it difficult and expensive to do (PDS is far from enough). One suspects these things are by design because they're planning to make money out of it.

considering it is in the middle of a controversy where the admins are accused of all sorts of things (good old mod drama that wasn't supposed to exist on Bsky...) I can't tell if you're being facetious.

It is a shame 3D Vision was phased away by Nvidia. I feel like it would have a better chance of success now that many people have VR headsets and no-glasses 3D monitors are starting to appear.

Making something like 3dsen is a much more difficult task than being able to display a game that is using a 3d engine and so would generally be fundamentally capable of providing a stereoscopic view. That said, most of them currently don't offer it anyway and it's still not quite zero effort to add such a capability.

It does seem like Valve are saying they want to let you view a game in a stereoscopic 3D if the game has support for it built-in already so it would be 3d support for flat games (meaning games primarily made to be run on a screen) but only if the game has support for it. That's good but does mean there's still a need for either developers or 3rd parties to make the changes needed for it to function.

FWIW, I didn't get it at first but found it funny after reading the comment where you explained it.

Valve spokesperson told Road to VR that they're not promising to support stereoscopic 3D for flat games but they are looking into it.

The company further said it’s considering a system-level implementation that could display any stereoscopic 3D content, whether it’s stereoscopically rendered games, videos, or photos. Should the stereoscopic 3D feature be built, Valve told me it would “be our goal” to be able to display such content when streamed from a PC or rendered directly on the headset itself.

Gizmodo points out that smart glasses are still in an interesting phase where the there's a lot of experimentation on what exactly the feature set and even the form should look like which is similar to what happened with phones.
