If I didn't know a lost cause when I see one, I'd recommend them to seek out a mental health professional. These are sick people who will suffer and die an horrific death by their own hand at an early age.
These are severely ill people who will die prematurely even if they get the help that they need. Do you walk up to cancer patients and go: "oh you are so beautiful just the way you are, never change"?

Joining a cult has never been about ridding yourself of human desires and needs, that's impossible. It is always about fleeing responsibility and accountability, submitting to an infallible leader/entity. Unless of course you are forced into the cult as a child, which is child abuse, and should result in immediate rehousing.

You can't be sent back if there's a legitimate threat to your life waiting for you. Like being a woman in bad standing with her family, or being gay. It happens anyway sometimes of course, and people do lie sometimes. Although I have a hard time seeing a devout Muslim being in a committed gay relationship just for a visa/citizenship.
Personally I dislike the influx of religious cultists, since we've worked really hard for the last 50-70 years to free ourselves from the oppression and violence that the sick Cult of Yahweh has brought us throughout history.
