Yep. If you don't give those judges any due process then they can't actually prove that they are citizens, let alone SCOTUS justices. Just pack them off to a torture prison somewhere and wash your hands of them. It's the American way now.

I can absolutely understand providers being skittish about anything even remotely borderline with these laws in place,

And that is the whole issue here in a nutshell. Doctors and nurses are putting their careers and freedom on the line just brushing up against these draconian laws. If I were in their shoes I too would be very skittish.

I'm neither a doctor nor a woman, but can they really draw a line saying this day is in the sixth week and tomorrow is in the seventh? A line that would hold up in court if it had to?

I missed the human smuggling part.

That's okay. It's complete bullshit. DeSantis and Abbott have both done the same thing Kilmar Ábrego García is accused of and they haven't been charged.

They do indeed have options, but as I posted, there has been a huge uptick in threats against judges this year including threats against their families. It's not the marshal's or police who would be in real danger arresting an ICE agent. It would be the judge who gave the order. It will take a judge with real courage to issue that order.

You're not wrong, but it takes tremendous courage to be the first through the door when you know you are likely to die for it.

A parishioner driving a pickup truck hit the man and the church security team locked the front doors and exchanged gunfire with the man, police said.

Armed church security team, wow. That whole sentence is as American as apple pie, General Motors, and school shootings.

I agree, but you have to understand the courage it will take to do it. The first judge who does so could end up dead, and maybe their family too. Threats against judges have been dramatically increasing(archive.ph link). Every one of them has to be thinking, if I hit any of these thugs with a contempt charge, my family could be killed. Would you do it? I don't know if I could unless I knew my family were in hiding or surrounded by armed security.

The U.S. Marshals Service investigated 373 separate threats to judges in the first five months of 2025, compared with 509 probes all of last year, according to agency data that U.S. District Judge Esther Salas of New Jersey shared with The Washington Post. The threats targeted 277 judges, some of whom were threatened more than once, compared with 379 judges threatened in all of 2024.

The Marshals Service is also reviewing more than 100 anonymous, unsolicited pizza deliveries to judges and their families in at least seven states and the District of Columbia in recent months — incidents that the judges and investigators see as ominous messages to the recipients that the sender knows who they are and where they live.

Some of the deliveries went to judges handling lawsuits against the Trump administration, The Post has reported. At least 20 deliveries have been made in the name of Salas’s son, Daniel Anderl, who was fatally shot at the family’s home in 2020 by a disgruntled lawyer posing as a delivery person.

Gotta make sure they spread that radioactive material as far and wide as possible.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago

Damn. That is terrifying. Somebody should be slapping these on all of them.

I wouldn’t want to be near one of these cars.

The sad thing is that you might be marginally safer inside the thing. Maybe... a little anyway. At least inside it, you don't have to worry about it running you or your kid over. These things should not be on the road in any capacity.

It's also an article about another article from Variety that actually has a better headline. These things are a pet peeve for me. Hey, here's a story from an actual news service and I'll even include a link to it, but I'm going to post my link all over so people will see the ads on my page instead of theirs. Variety does some good reporting, I've rather they get the clicks.

TIL. The ones I've seen were all black.

Not all searches get AI answers, but Google has been steadily expanding this feature since it debuted last year. One searcher on Reddit spotted a troubling confabulation when searching for crashes involving Airbus planes. AI Overviews, apparently overwhelmed with results reporting on the Air India crash, stated confidently (and incorrectly) that it was an Airbus A330 that fell out of the sky shortly after takeoff. We've run a few similar searches—some of the AI results say Boeing, some say Airbus, and some include a strange mashup blaming both Airbus and Boeing. It's a mess.

Always remember that AI, or more accurately, LLMs are just glorified predictive text like on your phone. Don't trust them. Maybe someday they will be reliable, but that day isn't today.___

More than two months after the Trump administration admitted it mistakenly deported Abrego Garcia from Maryland to his native El Salvador, a federal grand jury has indicted him for allegedly transporting undocumented migrants within the United States, ABC News has learned.

A two-count indictment, which was filed under seal in federal court in Tennessee last month, alleges Abrego Garcia, 29, participated in a years-long conspiracy to haul undocumented migrants from Texas to the interior of the country, according to sources briefed on the indictment.

I can only assume this means charges will be forthcoming against Texas Governor Abbott soon for the same charges.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 21 and was captured on video, showing the officers exchanging blows and shoves. One of them, visibly agitated, used her radio to request the presence of a supervisor, warning that "I need a supervisor here... immediately before I beat this girl up."

To absolutely no one's surprise...

Marko Elez, 25, who worked for a number of companies run by Elon Musk and was part of the billionaire’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force engaged in dismantling federal offices, resigned Thursday, a White House official told The Hill.

Elez’s racist, now-deleted social media posts were uncovered and first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

“Normalize Indian hate,” the account associated with Elez posted in September, regarding people of Indian ethnicity who work in the U.S. tech sector, the Journal reported.

“You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” the account wrote on Elon Musk’s social media site X, the Journal reported.

HHS has sent out letters terminating all DEI employees and programs. The letter included instructions that the email DEIAtruth@opm.gov was available to report people for non-compliance.

Personally, I am very concerned that radical elements might attempt to flood that email address. That would be a real shame if that were to happen.

Actual quote (video included in link):

“I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term,” he threatened. “Because listen here, sweetheart: We’re not messing around this time, and we will put your fat a-- in prison for conspiracy against rights, and I promise you that.”

Welcome to the new regime.

No video released yet but the right wing blog-sphere is already claiming it's AI. Put on your seat-belts and keep your hands inside the car at all times.

Fulton County prosecutors filed an emergency request for a protective order in the Georgia election subversion case on Tuesday after recorded statements made by multiple defendants as part of their plea deals were made public.

On Monday, ABC News and The Washington Post published footage of the proffer sessions, which showed the four defendants who pleaded guilty being questioned by prosecutors about their involvement in various efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Prosecutors said the footage was turned over to the remaining defendants as part of discovery, urging the court to impose restrictions on how the defendants can disclose the materials.

“The release of these confidential video recordings is clearly intended to intimidate witnesses in this case, subjecting them to harassment and threats prior to trial, constitutes indirect communication about the facts of this case with codefendants and witnesses, and obstructs the administration of justice, in violation of the conditions of release imposed on each defendant,” prosecutors wrote in their motion.

To prevent further disclosure, prosecutors said they will not provide videos of any proffer sessions to defendants moving forward.

“Instead, defendants must come to the District Attorney’s Office to view confidential video recordings of proffers. They may take notes, but they will be prohibited from creating any recordings or reproductions,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.

Last weekend, an auction held at his Florida home saw the item, described as "a one of a kind Trump Glock from the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump," go up for bidding during a charity event. Pictures circulating on social media show the gun being presented at the auction, with news website Meidas Touch saying that bidding for the item began at $10,000.

However, the transaction could land the former U.S. president in considerable trouble, given that federal law prohibits those under indictment from transacting firearms. Trump is embroiled in active legal proceedings, having testified at a civil trial over the New York investigation into financial fraud at the Trump Organization. The former president has denied all wrongdoing and repeatedly said that the ongoing federal and civil cases against him are part of a political witch hunt.
