Yeah the order is really funky lol

Connections
Puzzle #711
🟩πŸŸͺ🟩🟩
🟩πŸŸͺ🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩
πŸŸͺπŸŸͺπŸŸͺπŸŸͺ
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟦🟦🟦🟦

Really impatient on the green category, but we got it together after lol πŸ˜…

Agree that the order is super weird

SpoilerI kept wanting to include bridge troll in the green skin category, not helped by not knowing who elfaba was right off. When I looked her up after my first wrong guess I changed Grinch to elfaba thinking maybe "Grinch has green fur, not skin". I'm an idiot lol. We got there in the end

By the way, if you want them to all show up on one line you can add two spaces after each line and it'll show up as a nice block :)

I was trying to figure it out a while back and someone was kind enough to fill me in

Silicone is used for the insulation of the cables on clothing irons, I'm not really sure what if any tubing might be used internally

Silicone insulated cables do have a reputation for being much more flexible (and notably heat resistant) than other insulator materials

Another thought altogether- you might have the best luck with something you can like heat mold into place but putting a wire or something through it to help it keep its structure and prevent kinking, and then heating and bending slowly to create a tube that already has your desired radius bent. But no kink because you kept the inside expanded with something

In large tubes I've seen sand or salt used, but I'm not sure how that'd work here. With salt you can then just rinse any excess out but it might not be ideal for something this small πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Wire seem like a pain to remove afterwards but maybe if you used a number of fine wire strands like from a stranded cable. Fit as many in as you can, bend, and then you could pull them out individually and they'd each be more flexible coming out around that corner you've bent because they're really fine

Not sure whether pre-bending or something super flexible would be better, but good luck I hope you find your solution!

I wonder if there's a way to combine it with the ideas talked about in this post https://ponder.cat/post/2961831

The article talks about how powerful mockery and jokes can be. Which makes sense. It's more fun to tell jokes that make austere criticisms so you can pull people into it with you and grow the number of people participating

And jokes have a more impactful ability to create shame than serious expressions of discontent.

Its a thought! Maybe folks could start contexts to see who could write the most scathing, hilarious jokes about doge

A really impactful read, thank you for sharing ❀️

I'll have to come back and try to get a gift article link to the next installment he alludes to at the end

The fediverse is small, and thats both a blessing and a curse - one of its several blessings is that in a smaller space we all individually have a bigger impact on what the culture of this space is like.

On this comm (and on lemmy broadly) there's a lot of discussion about how to grow the fediverse, what to improve, but an easy thing you can do for the fediverse is right in front of us-

  • Be kind

  • Ask people what they think, and why

  • Approach folks you disagree with with curiosity rather than hostility (EDIT: no, this is not specifically referring to Nazis. I get it, they're the first thing that comes to mind. I'm not telling you to approve of Nazis I'm just saying be kind to your fellow lemmites)

  • Engage sincerely

  • Ask yourself if there's something nice you can say

  • Make this small space worth being in

A platform lives or dies by what's available on said platform and often we have this conversation in the context of "content" or posts - and we may never have as much content as reddit does. But content and posts aren't the only thing this kind of platform offers- it also offers people. It offers community, and human interaction.

Culture and community is lemmy and the fediverse's biggest differentiator, and we all have a role to play in shaping the culture of this space.

The biggest thing you can do to help the fediverse is make it a place worth being.

I quite like the new adaita font, though it has a bit less character than that new font open suse published a little while back.

But something more neutral isn't strictly a bad thing for an interface font I suppose

Hope y'all are having a good day :)

Their caption "look, it's all my favorite streaming services on one platform!" Is probably better than mine lol

I figured a meme for folks learning Japanese could be fun :)

I feel like there might be other comms to crosspost this to but couldn't think of any, feel free to crosspost if you can!

I have a friend who I recently learned is looking to switch to Linux and I offered to help, since I've been using Linux for ages. I'm not the most technical user, but in some ways I think that makes me uniquely well suited to be a new person's guide, and I'm pretty familiar with the install and setup process sans one big thing, proprietary graphics drivers, I've generally always been installing Linux on a laptop it an integrated gpu

They let me know they have an nvidia graphics card, I think 30 series if I remember right, we don't know what DE or distro might be a good fit for them and I told them we'd start by test driving a few, see what they thought of the interfaces, and pick a distro from there

Can you boot and use the OS without installing the proprietary drivers, or do you need to install them via like tty or something? I know nvidia started open sourcing their drivers and some amount is in the kernel now, I assume proprietary drivers are still optimal, if not explicitly necessary?

Any and all advice is welcome, it's kinda hard to research something this general and get a sense for what the big picture looks like

Thank you!

Sorry the pictures are kinda crap. I'd never seen one before and thought it looked super cool!

It was really small and it looked like basically the whole top half of the car was glass

Also kinda surprised with myself that I recognize the rims, I think they're painted e30 bottlecaps πŸ˜…
