So that says to me there was a worse economic downturn for farmers in mid 70's.

I know there was a bunch of junk with oil at the time. Is that what the downturn was about or was there something else happening at that time to beat on farmers specifically? Any history buffs with the inside scoop care to share?

I was ~8 years old when the search engine wars were going on. Even as close to the "pre-google" age as I was, I literally cannot conceive of existence without it nor fathom how difficult some (relatively basic) things must've been.

For context, I've dabbled in home brewing. I've made ~4 successful batches based on online recipes. I wouldn't call myself an expert, but also not a complete amateur.

So what happens if you don't rack your mead/wine? I suppose the notion I have is to let it set in primary (assuming there's no fruit/spices to remove after initial fermentation) until its fully clarified before going straight to bottling?

I guess I've assumed there is some problem in the clarification step if you don't "get rid of" the dead yeast that precipitates, but I've never seen anything exploring that as a method.

Can anyone offer their experience?

Not sure your specific configuration (and thus limitations for tools and such), but I've had a good experience taking a tiny punch and hammering a small river in the middle (to give the drill bit some amount of purchase to start), then drilling out the rivet.

Hope that's helpful!

I hate how well this identifies me

To be fair, the 3/4 fit elves account for 2/4 middle age dads.

Aren't 3 of the 4 "Elf Princes" still known to be incredibly fit?

I'm out of practice with my physics so apologies if this is a n00b question, but:

I'm unclear what (rho V) is and how you converted to that from mass (m). Further unclear what (rho A d) refers to.

Can you explain / link to an explainer on this?

I have a chip on my shoulder about the metric system as it appears in sci-fi writing.

It drives me nuts that in books like The Expanse (and I think the Bobiverse and Andy Wier's works) that the writer will call distances in "thousands/millions of kilometers".

Really feels more reasonable to just go full send and call them megameters and gigameters, but maybe that's just my American non-metric mind trying to force full use of a system in a way those born to it don't actually do.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I think I'd depends on what you mean by secure.

So to give you an idea of how that'd work (at least my understanding of it):

  • Your VPN will set up a virtual interface (naturally its associated with your physical network interface, but the virtual allows some cryptography magic) and sends all traffic out that "pipe". That pipe leads to (in this case) a Proton server. That pipe is encrypted from your device to that server.
  • By default, ALL traffic is forced out that pipe.
  • When you allow LAN connections, it'll basically setup a firewall rule that sends all traffic NOT bound for you local network (usually 192.168.0.0/24) through that encrypted pipe.
  • all traffic bound for the local network will go through usual routes.

On the face of it and with a "normie" home network, this is probably okay.

However, if you (as an example) run a local DNS server (like Pi-Hole) its possible that your DNS traffic gets send through normal (and potentially non - encrypted means) channels to the DNS server and then forwarded out to the wider internet. This could allow an ISP to get an idea of what you're looking at with your VPN (since they'll be able to see that you're using a VPN, this is not a difficult thing to correlate)

So really the answer is it depends. I'd minimize risks by leaving LAN connections off, unless you really need it, but that's making a bunch of assumptions about your specific needs and threat model.

So the way I could see this working for her is have Bernie Sanders come and endorse her right out the gate (I doubt he'd be up for being her running mate, but it'd probably be an even better run if he accepted that).

Ol' boy had been VERY effective at breaking into right - leaning spaces and I could see him contributing to getting the historically Democrat (but not recently Democrat) voter out for AOC.

My real concern is the party leaders. I could see them trying to hold back resources and effectively pulling the same moves they pulled in Bernie to hold her down.

This feels like its related to specific recent news....but I can't tell what. Would someone be so kind as to bring me up to speed?

For max ergonomics, wouldn't you want the trigger pull to be more perpendicular to the grip?

Of course, your thumb is gona be sore either way.

Just got set up with latest update and am having issues with up swipes when scrolling (e.g. on webpages), when up swiping to access open apps/full app listing, and when trying to "back" swipe (i.e. trying to back out of a menu.

To be more descriptive, if I stop scrolling with up swipes, usually the next up swipe won't work and I'll need to do it twice to have it register the gesture.

For opening my list of apps and the full app listing (swiping from very bottom) I usually have to try about 5 times for it to register the gesture. Same for back swiping.

I use the standard Grapheme launcher and haven't installed any new apps since the update. Issue started this morning after the reboot for OS upgrade. I do have a screen protector, but I'm not seeing any issues with any tapping gestures, so I doubt that's the cause.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know any fixes?

So recently had a hankering for some Pokémon hacks so booted up my old Pokémon Storm Silver ROM (using retroarch with Desmume as emulator).

I spun up a new game and played a bit, but it wouldn't let me save a new game since the ROM had my old save data. I decided to just save the game state with the built in retro arch save state functionality. So beat the champion using save states as alternative save feature with 60 hours on game clock (probably MUCH less due to my abuse of ffw feature).

But when you beat the champion, it dumps you back to the title screen. From there, I can only load my old data (since my current play isn't properly saved in the game data). As such, I can't play any of the post elite four content.

Anyone aware of a workaround where I can erase the games data from a save state? Kinda feels like I'm just SOL.

If I am, let this stand as a warning to other Pokémon fans. Always take the time to clear your old data!

Just recently took the leap to Graphene OS from stock android.

One problem I'm having is getting my apps and keeping them updated. Obviously I've been trying to use F-Droid, Accrescent, and the Grapheme provided app store where I can, but work and friends require me to have apps not available there.

I've been using Aurora Store for everything else, but it seems really buggy (tons of instances where apps won't update, will need ~3 tries to properly install, will notify me there was an error when the app clearly installed, etc). Additionally, I saw somewhere that Aurora store has some privacy/security issues (but didn't dive deeper to see what was meant by that).

I've read Obtanium is another option, but it looks like that still will not meet all my needs.

I suppose I should also say that I'm hesitant to use the Play Store / Play Services at all. I get there's sandboxing around them that makes them less invasive, but I don't full grasp how Graphene accomplishes that / what specifically it prevents.

What are you guys using for your App Stores? Should I just put aside my concerns and trust the sandboxed Play Store?

Appreciate your attention and consideration on this!

I'm a tech interested guy. I've touched SQL once or twice, but wasn't able to really make sense of it. That combined with not having a practical use leaves SQL as largely a black box in my mind (though I am somewhat familiar with technical concepts in databasing).

With that, I keep seeing [pic related] as proof that Elon Musk doesn't understand SQL.

Can someone give me a technical explanation for how one would come to that conclusion? I'd love if you could pass technical documentation for that.

I've heard Reddit is setting themselves up for another major fumble and that it relates to how much Spez is a fanboy of Elon Musk.

I can't find any details on the drama playing out though. Can someone explain the details of what's going on?

I would love to see Lemmy grow with another big "Rexxit" event, but I'm not seeing anything happening to cause one.
