Le 19 juin 2025, les habitant.e.s de 11, 15 et 17 Place des Augustins se sont réunis pour la deuxième assemblée de leur association Voisin.e.s de la Place des Augustins. Ils ont décidé le lancement d’une pétition contre la résiliation de tous les baux par la Zurich Assurance pour l’été 2026, la destruction de leur immeuble et l’absence totale de relogement prévu en cas d’aboutissement du projet.

L’immeuble de 74 logements et deux cafés-restaurants est voué à la démolition par la Zurich, qui en profitera pour augmenter massivement les loyers et poursuivre la disparation des quartiers populaires de centre ville. Une fois de plus, une immense entreprise multi-propriétaire entend maximiser ses profits aux détriments des habitant.e.s.

They refused to disclose alleged grounds for sequestring him and where they would take him. Abunimah was scheduled to speak this afternoon at a teach-in on the history of Palestine, organised by local groups. He is now held under administrative detention by the cantonal police, who intends to keep him several nights in custody until they deport him out of the country next week.

The Conservatives lost office before they were able to do their worst. But never mind, because Labour has now picked up the baton.

A month ago, so quietly that most of us missed it, the government published a consultation on deregulating chemicals. While most consultations last for 12 weeks, this one runs for eight, half of which cover the holiday period – it closes on 18 August. The intention is set out at the beginning: to reduce “costs to business”. This, as repeated statements by Keir Starmer make clear, means tearing up the rules.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and long COVID affect large numbers of people, and constitute a substantial burden to the U.S. and global economies. The article by Eckey et al., in this issue of PNAS (1), adds to the growing evidence that the two illnesses have much in common. Moreover, the illnesses may represent just two examples of an even larger, recently recognized class of illness: post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS) (2).
