I also created a ghost community. It had a few stragglers at first and then most of the content was erased from one user. I knew I never had the time to mod it and it never really took off like it did on Reddit. That's okay, it's a dead subject anyway. It's basically a venting place for how Disney screwed up Lucasfilm. That's fairly obvious now and people have moved on, including myself. It's all good!

Alright, you win. You get to start the book deal. Haha

Of course there are some exceptions and it's not perfect, but it's not an every day occurrence with most of those. You do bring up valid points. It's more of a thought of not wanting to rush everywhere because you'll get stopped eventually. There are traffic jams, protesters, accidents, and severe weather that can function the same. If it's something that will help someone deal with the everyday and not have to worry about other people's status in the world or even the ongoing depression of how little ahead you are in life, it's a sign that represents a sliver of equality.

I don't know if I can actually pull this off, but it's been a thought that I'd like to sound off in the open for others to see.

I follow a lot of stoicism philosophy and I like to follow parables for life lessons. The dichotomy of control, the obstacle is the way, you have two ears and one mouth, Amor Fati, Memento Mori, etc. Most try to put it in every day examples and while I was commuting to and from work, I was constantly fighting the urge not to rage at other selfish drivers. Of course, that comes with the dichotomy of control. I can only control my feelings and actions. But it also occurred to me that no matter what lifestyle you live, what background, character, personality, financial or disability you may or may not have, everyone gets stopped by red lights. There is no competition on who's the fastest, selfish, richest, toughest, or luckiest person. If you're rich and own a private jet, you'll have a chauffeur drive you to where you'll be. If you don't own a car, bikes and pedestrians have to obey the intersections. Runners and wheelchairs, fast cars and slow cars, big ass trucks and mini models. Sometimes you get lucky and it's a green light, but eventually everyone has to stop at a red light.

We're all equal and it has me more grounded than ever before. We have sports competitions and favorite teams, and my needs versus your needs. Political views, be damned. I always think of the person cutting me off or squeezing and now I just let them. Wherever they are going and for how long, a red light will stop them too.

I wish I could be more profound or add so much more to make into a book, but there you go out in the open. Now people can poke holes in it if they like. Haha

Stoicism helped me. The dichotomy of control.

"You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this and you'll find strength." -Marcus Aurelius

Basically everyone is responsible over their own thoughts and actions.

I have not heard that name in a long time. .... Long time.

I still whistle the music every so often.

If you want some more reading material, check out Ryan Holiday. He's more modern oriented with stoicism. And of course YouTube or equivalent sources from him.

Obviously this is in mental health. If you're self aware of how cynical you are (and believe me, I've also been there as I'm also in my 40s), you really should look for avenues of therapy that resonate with you. Someone to talk to could actually hash out some inner feelings and turmoil you might be holding on.

I am/was a people pleaser also. It's hard to not be nice when people ask but I also realize if I'm saying yes to someone, I'm saying no to myself or something that might be more important. It's good to at least weigh the balance that way.

My final suggestion is a tall order. It may or may not be a popular suggestion here, but I found that stoicism has helped me. I read, watch videos, and listen to podcasts about the ancient Stoics and it helps me deal with feelings and encounters that enhance those feelings. Getting road rage? Take a deep breath and forgive that person who cut you off. Everyone has their demons and misfortune and perhaps they needed it more. But the point is you take and keep control of your feelings and actions and then you'll pursue peace. Of course shitty things will happen in the world and you don't want to be callous about them. But once you keep your integrity, authenticity, and pursue wisdom, courage, justice and temperance, everyone will see that and follow suit.

Good luck, stranger. I'm just an idiot on the Internet but your words pulled on my heartstrings.

Nobody wants to mention the Malazan Empire series? That's probably fair since chances are good someone would screw it up royally.

[–] Hellnikko@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Just don't say Elric since we know how they screwed us over on his ripoff.

The best part is no matter what health insurance he has (or doesn't have), that's gonna be expensive as fuck by the end of the year.

Perhaps I'm a little slow, blind, ignorant, or any combination. I like to go to different instances and browse the communities in each to see if I can broaden my interests without having to be specific. The only way I've been able to do this is having to go through the browser because I have zero clue how to do it in the app. I can get to the trending, but those are generally empty with no description. Any help or guidance on this would be great.

I'll share when it finally hit me that Star Wars was practically dead. We got to see The Last Jedi during work. Even got paid to go see it. But for our big company, it was a shit show from the beginning. The theater wasn't ready for us and everyone wanted to get concessions before. This ended up too long and most of us missed the beginning scroll and lame momma joke. When some of us finally got in, there were already coworkers and their families in our seats. So it was awkward from the get go that we had to move them out. When we got situated, it was at the part when Rose's sister was about to die. I honestly almost thought we were in the wrong theater watching the wrong movie.

Watched it all and I was appalled. But my stubborn ass decided maybe I missed something in the first part that was crucial to why this was so bad. That mother fucker Rian Johnson convinced me to watch his lame ass movie twice. I never spent money on another Star Wars movie or show again.
