In a vegan world, chickens, cows, and other livestock would go extinct because humans would no longer have a use for them.

Modern factory farm chickens only live to about 2-3 years, even in good conditions. Sorry, but their lives just aren't that important to me compared to everything else in the world. To me, these facts aren't harsh, they're just reality. We have bred chickens to be disposable and used as food. So how can I be upset that they're treated as a disposable food source?

It's a matter of opinion. You are convinced this practice is horrible and evil. I, and a large portion of the population, just don't see it that way. We see it the same as farming. You grow something, then you harvest it. I'm all for better quality of life for livestock, but only because it leads to better quality meat. Ethics don't really factor into it because I don't see anything unethical about it.

I get the feeling that you think if everyone knew how the sausage was made, we'd all stop eating it and demand change. But we already know how the sausage is made, and it's delicious.

"intelligent", no they certainly aren't that.

"Wave of the future", unfortunately yes. They are. AI is entering nearly every field, and to ignore that because you desperately want to believe that's not the case is just burning your head in the sand. It absolutely is the wave of the future, it's just not a very good future.

I keep meaning to make a browser extension that automatically adds some version of "AND WELCOME TO THE JAM" anytime the word slam is used.

Not sure, but I doubt it. Whatever he used, it wasn't supposed to be in a bathroom. I moved out a month later and the paint was ALREADY warping and falling off in places from the humidity of, you know, a bathroom.

Hey, why are you simping for the corporate takeover of the internet? Self-censoring in fear that the big bad Google or Meta will get mad at your no-no words and take them down. Fuck them. They are trying to sanitize the internet to make it more appealing for ads. Don't help them.

Always crickets when it comes to legitimate criticism that doesn't align with their belief that the only reason anyone could ever possibly dislike pizzacake is because she's a woman.

I rented a place that had a really bad mold problem in the bathroom. We tried cleaning it but it kept coming back, it was clear it was deep in the sheetrock and baseboards (which were also rotting). I told the landlord again and again about it and he kept promising that he was planning on refurbishing it and taking care of everything.

Well, one day he finally shows up with a big bucket of paint and just paints over everything. Didn't even bother scraping off the old paint. That was my final sign to move. Just ridiculous he thought that would solve anything.

Is it just a matter of not being worth it? I see cooling towers releasing what appears to be a ton of steam, pretty high up. If that steam were captured at the top and allowed to condense, wouldn't that result in a ton of water with a lot of gravitational potential energy? That water could then be released and used to power water turbines. Maybe I'm overestimating the amount of water being released as steam, or underestimating how much is needed to spin a water turbine to get a meaningful result, but it seems like wasted energy to me.

I'm aiming to get the 30k steps in a day achievement and was wondering if the app considered a day as in a calendar day, or if it's 30k steps in 24 hours?

30k steps comes out to about 15 miles. If the app goes off 24 hours, I was considering taking a backpacking trip some weekend and hiking half in an afternoon, stopping for the night, and doing the rest in the morning. But if it goes by calendar, I'd have to adjust my plans.

I'm moving across the country in a few weeks and am trying to plan my route as I'll be driving a moving van with a car towed behind it. The entire drive will be 16-17 hours.

Google maps seems limited for searching everything I'd want to take into account for the route (pull through gas stations, height requirements, avoiding mountain highways, etc.) and was wondering if anyone knew of a better way to plan out the trip?
