One of the world’s largest banks threatened to leave the UK if the government increased tax on banks at last year’s autumn budget, openDemocracy can reveal.

The head of US banking giant JP Morgan Chase (JPMC) was among several industry leaders to personally meet with Rachel Reeves last autumn, amid speculation that the chancellor planned to raise tax on banking profits to help fill a £22bn “blackhole” in public finances.

In the end, the tax hike did not materialise. The government has since announced a range of cuts to tackle the funding shortfall, including slashing departmental budgets, disability benefits and the winter fuel allowance for pensioners.

Now, documents obtained by openDemocracy show that a representative of Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMC, wrote to Reeves after the meeting to say the bank would consider moving parts of its business abroad if taxes increased.

Ever wonder how government documents, once locked away on tiny sheets of microfiche, become searchable and accessible online? Now you can see it happen in real time.

You consider The No Azure for Apartheid (NOAA) group a random people?

The source is the No Azure For Apartheid post.

You literally hear about them everytime a Microsoft employee disturb a event/ publicly protest Microsoft actions.

They are basing their article on this Instagram source, with the rest of the article is just them yapping and asking Microsoft for a comment.

The No Azure for Apartheid (NOAA) protest group reports that “dozens of Microsoft workers” have been unable to send emails with the words “Palestine,” “Gaza,” and “Genocide” in email subject lines or in the body of a message.

Yess

The Oliver Wyman Forum survey, a think tank from consulting firm Oliver Wyman, which polled 16,000 participants from 16 countries, found that 32% of respondents would be interested in using AI instead of a real person to manage their mental health. The survey shows that interest in getting AI therapists was highest in countries like India, which generally has fewer mental health professionals per capita.

I think not. I intend to keep the door for posts as wide as possible, as long as it's related to technology.

In my opinion, if your are tired from that, then you are better served by subscribing to a topic under the technology umbrella(Cyber security, hardware, software,... etc) , rather than the general technology community.

I don't think so.

The dependency does not change based on the form.

When you take a pill, you have a hard number about how much caffeine did you just ingest. On the other hand, you don't get that at all with the normal coffee.

How is Coffee healthier exactly?

[–] Pro@programming.dev 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Plus there are other health benefits to drinking coffee or tea that you don't get from the caffeine alone.

Like what?
