They had just finished eating some wet food haha

I had the same question a while back. It's not throttling, it's just worded weird. I turned off that message in mangohud and never had issues

What you got against Cold Play?

Temperatures closer to 100c and over are worrisome. But it depends on the environment and if it's a laptop or desktop. Laptops run hotter, that desktops and its normal for them to be in the 80s for either GPU or CPU. As for usage percents. GPU usage should almost always be close to 100% for graphically Intense games, but there are variables such as resulotion and frame rate. Looking at your numbers you posted, I don't see an immediate reason why it would be crashing so soon. The temps and usages were fine, so that would lead me to suspect software.

And did you try proton experimental?

[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Those numbers are pretty normal. Especially if the game is compiling shaders. But 71c on the CPU is a little warm 2s after starting the game.

Yes it is. And you can look up a video on how to install it too. There isn't a GUI, just a text editor. And you set launch parameters for it to show up in steam. Or lutris has the option for it in settings.

I have almost the exact setup you have, except the RAM and I'm using heroic launcher. I have no issues with CP 2077 My go to with game issues is to monitor the components in game. Install mangohud, configure the OSD to show CPU temps, gpu temps, clocks and also usage. That will help narrow down if the issue is hardware or software.

Awesome! Glad that it worked.

I updated my post with the solution I found. Try that and see if it helps

I have been using the hoyoplay launcher for a long time with no issues. I installed it through steam and it ran perfectly until they released the latest update for the launcher. I updated the launcher and now it won't launch through steam, lutris or heroic. In steam, the launcher will popup for a split second then close. In lutris and Heroic launcher it will launch to a black screen. I found that other ppl are having the same issue and some said that I need to install web view 2 through bottles. I installed web view 2 through bottles, I launched hoyoplay launcher in bottles, and finally it works.... Or so I thought. The launcher works properly in bottles, I was able to link my games but when I click start game the launcher will close for a second, then pop back up. It doesn't actually launch the game. I even verified the game files through the launcher but that didn't work. Not sure what to do at this point. I also tried just running the game exe itself but it says it needs the launcher to play..

Other things I've tried is using a variety of different runners in the different launchers - wine, proton etc. I even booted up my windows to go USB drive, installed the launcher, then transferred the files to my Linux PC and no luck

EDIT: I got Genshin Impact to work. The launcher still doesn't work in steam, but I found the right exe that will launch Genshin without the launcher. Go to the install folder "Genshin Impact" then go to the folder "Genshin Impact Game." Launch the Genshinimpact.exe in which ever launcher. It works in steam with proton experimental. So my solution right now is to use bottles to update/install the games then just launch the individual game exe in steam. This works for Genshin and ZZZ. I'm sure it will work for the other games.

Hi fellow Linux users, I just built a new rig and am issues with installing large fitgirl repacks. My specs Ryzen 7 7800x3d Rtx 4070 ti super 32 gigs of ddr5 RAM Linux mint 22.1 Lutris with wine version: ge-8-26x86_64 I am trying to install FFXVI on an SSD with plenty of free space. I can get to about 90% of unpacking before I get an error saying I ran out of memory. I made sure to check the box in the installer to limit RAM use, I also had my system monitor up to monitor it and my RAM usage never got to 100%. Looking at other posts, it seems like using a windows VM is my best option because I have had missing files on other games that successfully installed. Just wanted to see if there's another solution or if I should just use a windows VM. Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot that a while back I made an external USB windows to go drive. I used that to unpack the game then move it over to my Linux drive. That worked with no issues unpacking

All my steam games that support dlss work with it, but my games using the heroic games launcher don't even show the option for DLSS in the game menu. I tried researching it but didn't have too much luck with finding a solution. I found one post saying that proton uses dlss by default, I'm using proton experimental but it still doesn't show up.

Heroic launcher is nice but I have had such a hard time enabling features like dlss and mangohud on it.

I'm using Linux mint 22.1.

EDIT: I fixed the issue. There is an option in heroic called "auto install/update DXVK-NVAPI on prefix" I had to enable it in the global settings and on the specific game. DLSS works now with frame gen.

I still have yet to get mangohud working with heroic tho

EDIT 2: I got mangohud to work with heroic. I had to use version 23.08

Tips on new build. (lemmy.world)

Hi everyone, I am looking to build a new PC and would like some feedback. I researched the different components and I believe everything should be compatible and fit in the case I chose. For reference, I am coming from an i7 8700k and an RTX 3070. My use case is 4k or 1440 gaming with demandings titles like Cyberpunk, with at least 60fps (preferably without needing to use DLSS too much) and mid to high settings. I also do some light video and photo editing, with some stable diffusion use. Here are the parts I picked so far. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XHyYLc

The GPU in there is a place holder, but I know I want either a 4080 or 4070 ti. I am going to shop around for the best deals but I want to make sure these components will work well together. All of the parts missing are parts I'll transfer from my old rig.

Thanks!

EDIT: looks like the 7800x3d is out of stock. So ill switch it with a 9700x.

EDIT2: 7800x3d is back in stock lol

EDIT 3: the RAM I'm looking to get isn't on the QVL list with the motherboard. What are the odds it won't work? I can't imagine they are able to test every ram model with their boards.

I built my PC back in 2019. I am still using the same CPU : i7 8700k. I have upgraded my GPU to an rtx 3070. I play only GPU heavy games in 4k usually with DLSS. I'm able to run most games in an acceptable framerate, 50-60fps. I would say my frame times could be better tho. I dont run any CPU heavy applications, but i have noticed that with these latest AAA games it takes forever to compile the shaders. My CPU is pretty outdated at this point, and I'm wondering if it would even be worth upgrading considering my use case and that I am mostly happy with my gaming performance. Oh and I run Linux if that makes a difference.

I'm wanting to move my current Linux mint install to a bigger drive that's NVME. I tried clone zilla and did the drive to drive oprion. But I'm unable to boot to the new drive. I read up on it and it seems like I didn't do the clone correctly. I was wondering, can I back up my current system with timeshift, then just do a normal install of Linux mint on the new drive, then use timeshift to restore my backed up system to the new SSD? Or should do I need to stay with clone zilla?

It's been several months since I switched to Linux mint and it's been great so far. My biggest headache has been dealing with Linux audio and trying to use JACK. I have an electronic drum kit and I use Reaper for recording and using VSTs with yabridge. I managed to get this to work but it only works with ALSA. I want to have YouTube open and play along to songs and this does not work with ALSA. I've researched and experimented with JACK for way longer than I cared to. When I switch to JACK, reaper doesn't recognize my e kit, even tho ita connected with patchbay, and it also makes my default audio output a dummy output. I've gotten to the point of just going back to windows cuz this has been a nightmare. Pulse audio does what I want but the latency is too high.

Is getting a second drive with windows on it the best solution?

EDIT: I have made some progress, I switched to bitwig, uses pipewire, mapped my pads to midi notes and assigned them sounds. I got the latency good and I'm able to play with YouTube. The only problem is bitwig doesn't recognize all the zones in my cymbals. I'm not sure how to fix that, when I was using Steven slate in reaper it registered all the zones.

Looking for recommendations for good ear protection during concerts. I want ear buds that don't just muffle all the sound but limit higher unsafe frequencies while allowing you to still enjoy the music. I did a search and came up with a bunch of different kinds and varying reviews on amazon, I also asked my friend who is in the live audio business and he said I needed custom molded IEMs but that seemed a little over kill for me, even if it's the best way.

This Site shows the common ones I've seen.

Thanks!

EDIT: thanks everyone for the reaponses, I will go through and look at each of the recommended solutioms works best for me.

Hi everyone, I'm running Linux mint and I play a couple online multiplayer ghost hunting games: phasmophobia, demonologist mainly. Those games have mechanics where certain items need voice input to work properly so you can "talk to the ghosts". My USB mic is displayed in the game as an input but the game doesn't actually get any input from my mic. I know my mic works because it works in discord while playing those games. Any help would be appreciated!
