Fwiw the user in question hasn't posted since July 2023, and only ever did 11 comments and 3 posts.

They get their Peregrin Took? Why are you stealing falcons off of Starfleet officers?

I had a daddy longlegs in my bathroom for a while. My bathroom exhaust fan broke so the room would get super steamy, and I think the poor spider drowned, because it had clearly died in that spot, hanging from my ceiling.

I still feel a little sad about that spider-bro.

Wow, I had no idea about purple. Nearly got fooled by the red herring but thankfully realised one of its entries was required to complete green.

The admins have removed posts/comments 3 days ago before the headlines rolled out.

You sure? Usually, removed posts & comments still show up on their profile; they just say "removed" instead of seeing the actual text of it. Unless it was physically removed from the database, there would be some evidence of it. And even the database method wouldn't federate, I'm pretty sure, so you'd still be able to see it if you looked in other instances. On no instance that I checked was I able to find any evidence the user made any submissions after 23 July, 2023.

It really does, hey.

I’m still more a fan of hubs than relying so heavily on a single CBD

More hubs is definitely not a bad idea... The number of people who currently commute into the CBDs of our biggest cities, and the extent to which our transportation networks are geared solely to that end, is concerning. A greater degree of multipolarity within our cities would be nice.

But on the other hand, to a certain extent, more centralised cities are a good thing and are necessary given Australia's population distribution. Yeah, Brisbane could do a better job of making Chermside a more serious secondary hub, and Eight Mile Plains, but it's probably not realistic to try and make Toowoomba or the Sunshine Coast bigger business hubs, let alone further out.

A big downside of more hubs is that it can kinda limit people's options for employment. Today, someone in Redcliffe might have a long commute into the CBD, which is not great. If we added those Chermside and EMP hubs, they might have the option to work at Chermside. But what is likely to happen is some businesses stay in the CBD, some move to Chermside, and some move to EMP. And if they get a job at Chermside, they're better off! But all those jobs that moved to EMP are now basically inaccessible to them. So from 20 jobs at a medium distance that they could work, there are now 10 jobs at a medium distance and 5 jobs at a close distance, for a total of 15 jobs—fewer available options. Less than ideal.

Earlier this week, Kathryn submitted a Notice of Intent, satisfying the requirements to make this a legal protest under the Peaceful Assemblies Act. However, the Queensland Police Service, together with Brisbane City Council quickly lodged an objection, and will apply to take the matter before a magistrate in an effort to shut down the protest. (In a mediation session this morning, the parties did not reach agreement on an alternative approach). They will attempt to argue that briefly closing the bridge to motor vehicle traffic while hundreds of people walk across is likely to jeopardize the safety of persons, cause serious public disorder, or excessively interfere with the rights or freedoms of others.

Unless a magistrate makes an order against the assembly, or Brisbane City Council takes a sensible long-term approach and allocates one of the kerbside lanes for people to safely walk and cycle across the Story Bridge, we’ll be joining the protest walk on Friday. Feel free to bring your bike or scooter (but you will need to walk with it, not ride), or a stroller, trolley or pram. Dress up, carry a sign, or just come along and join with others in claiming space for people.

Oh good, not just BCC but QPS too.

ACAB.

Part of the reason it's so expensive out there is simple overflow from it being expensive up closer. If you doubled supply within 10 km and ×1.5 out to 20 km, the price out further would also fall.

Yeah, that's exactly why I introduced my parents. I had to assure them it's a political thriller with no Force or lightsabres, and I'm explaining necessary prerequisite knowledge as it comes up (like who Mon Mothma is). I've decided not to tell them about Rogue One, but only episodes III and IV.

And if you aren't able to join the march or you are nervous about it, don't forget you can sign this petition calling on Council to show some common sense and install a temporary shared path on one of the traffic lanes:

Brisbane West BUG

Do you support suggestions to install a temporary shared path on one of the 6 traffic lanes of the Story Bridge while Brisbane City Council pulls its finger out to address the problems it has known about for 5 years or more and failed to act?

We do. And next Friday May 30th there is a March across the Story Bridge to show it. And do you know what? Council is trying to take the organisers to court, because "people's right to freedom of movement would be excessively interfered with."

So while it's perfectly fine to close a bridge that thousands of people rely on for walking or riding across for months with no definitive timeframe for reopening, but occupying a lane for a march across the bridge "interferes with freedom of movement".

We think the ongoing interference with people's right to freedom of movement by not being able to walk or ride across the bridge is far more serious.

While that court action plays out, share this event with everyone you know.

This city is not the sole domain of cars. But, unbelievably, we need to fight for the right to walk.

TL;DR, they may help with recovery, but not so much with run performance.

CHAPTER IV

JONATHAN HARKER’S JOURNAL—continued

19 May.---I am surely in the toils. Last night the Count asked me in the suavest tones to write three letters, one saying that my work here was nearly done, and that I should start for home within a few days, another that I was starting on the next morning from the time of the letter, and the third that I had left the castle and arrived at Bistritz. I would fain have rebelled, but felt that in the present state of things it would be madness to quarrel openly with the Count whilst I am so absolutely in his power; and to refuse would be to excite his suspicion and to arouse his anger. He knows that I know too much, and that I must not live, lest I be dangerous to him; my only chance is to prolong my opportunities. Something may occur which will give me a chance to escape. I saw in his eyes something of that gathering wrath which was manifest when he hurled that fair woman from him. He explained to me that posts were few and uncertain, and that my writing now would ensure ease of mind to my friends; and he assured me with so much impressiveness that he would countermand the later letters, which would be held over at Bistritz until due time in case chance would admit of my prolonging my stay, that to oppose him would have been to create new suspicion. I therefore pretended to fall in with his views, and asked him what dates I should put on the letters. He calculated a minute, and then said:---

"The first should be June 12, the second June 19, and the third June 29."

I know now the span of my life. God help me!
