Archaeologists Uncovered the First Evidence of Math—Before Numbers Were Even Invented

Who knew we had archeologists before we had numbers?

Exactly our setup.

I've never lived alone, but I was living independently of my parents at 17. They were amazing years :)

Yep. I removed their comment locally after replying to it. The reply was because those removals won't federate

Not so much.

Sex and gender are distinct elements. So whilst they're not the same thing, they do interact with each other and influence each other to some extent or another. If they didn't, then the world wouldn't be full of people whose gender and sex are in alignment. For that matter, if they didn't, we wouldn't even understand the concept of sex and gender being in alignment.

Also, "transgenderism" is a term popular with transphobes, because it frames trans people as a belief/ideology, rather than acknowledging their identity.

no non-sapient creature can ever be trans, because you need consciousness to have a gender identity in the first place.

But for all of that, strictly speaking, this is true.

Were it a "curious, socratic style question" you wouldn't have framed your question with loaded terminology designed to make trans people sound unreasonable and fake.

Someone eating a sauce I've never heard of, at a restaurant I barely go to, and posting about it on a social media platform I don't use! They absolutely should do this

It's chromium based now, and as bad as firefox's direction is, I don't really want to hand google based engines an even bigger portion of the internet.

Friends was probably the wrong word. What I was really referring to is community and social events. My good friends are still there in my life, but the broader queer community is now harder to connect with, and lots of social events and meetups that are happening in my city happen without me even knowing.

This was taken in near total darkness, with a hand held, 300mm 1 second exposure. I love this camera and lens!

And thank you to the Tawny, who was happy staying perfectly still for my long exposure :)

I swear the last time I was in Melbourne in 2019, the trams let me tap on and off with a credit card. But they don't now in 2025. Am I imagining things, or did it go backwards?

Well, that storm was a bit scary!

It’s a hot summer afternoon. I’m sitting down on a hot afternoon, with a burger, and a cold beer.

What I’m looking for is something to replace that cold beer with. I want it to be crisp and fresh, but also not sweet. I love tart and bitter flavours. Unfortunately, my options are either cold and sweet, cold and alcoholic or hot and non sweet.

So threadiverse, what alternatives am I missing?

Tereré is great, but it’s a bit of a pain to source in Australia. What else is there?

This video is a slideshow of a series of photos I took with my drone as a storm approached Brisbane, with a strange phenomenon that I'm unfamiliar with.

You can see a horizontal bolt of lightning slowly crawling its way across the sky from left to right. What's interesting is that each frame of the slide is an 8 second still, meaning that the bolt was visible in the sky for over a minute!
