I mean you can say you love me and you're not abusive, but then if you go and vote for someone that causes near daily harm to me from their policy actions and you continue to support that politician; why would I want anything to do with you?

The Robots DVD radicalized me

I can critize and dislike the US involvement in Korea, the ongoing genocide in Gaza, AND the Tiananmen Square massacre.

I can rank which ones killed more people, but no one should be committing any crimes against humanity like these regardless of scale

I will say first time around no deaths or disease outbreaks. I do wonder if my geographic location actually helped. I'm in the deep southeast US so it gets pretty hot. Maybe the local population of WCM have been breeding in warmer conditions at the breeders. Tap water is already hotter, and depending on the breeder the facility it may not be well cooled leading to higher ambient temperatures. Wouldn't be the first time the aquarium hobby creates fish adapted to different conditions than their natural habitat.

I really do enjoy the white cloud minnows.

I'm currently sitting on at least a years worth of laundry detergent, several years of dryer sheets, and and plenty of dishwasher tabs.

I'm already stocked on food

Is it truly that bad of a combo as some forums suggest?

I'm getting back into the hobby and wanted to recreate a tank i kept in college. I'm looking to do a planted 20-30 gallon and I kept a combo of white clouds, zebra danios, and a betta very successfully back then. The fish seemed to be very active, in good health, and had great color. I remember I kept the tank around the 74-76 degree mark. Everyone seemed happy.

I really wanted to replicate that tank at a bigger scale, but my now I'm seeing advice that says it's a bad idea.

Anybody have any thoughts/suggestions?

I'd consider another centerpiece fish instead of the betta if anyone has any suggestions

You can download a copy of Wikipedia in full today before they turn it to shit.

Unlike the people in Alexandria, you can spend less that $20 and 20 minutes to download the whole thing and preserve it yourself

And then there's my dad. He worked for one of the country's larger businesses for decades and constantly repeats all their anti-union training.

He actually believes that all a union wants to do is take your money via dues and provide the worker with nothing. It's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. It's not even like his job paid the bills either, we were poor growing up and he's poor now.

Maybe it would be wise for an instance to incorporate as a non-profit of some kind. I believe a designation exists for "social clubs".

That way there's less pressure on admins and less worry of facing personal consequences if someone posts something illegal on their instance since then the LLC or local equivalent would be liable.

I doubt an instance would ever have the funds but it could even theoretically allow for a paid admin.

I know it sounds like we're reinventing the "big" internet again, but i don't see it being an issue. I don't see a world where lemmy could generate that level of profit. In this case an LLC would be about gaining legal protections only

Archeologist here, you could coat the whole thing in B-72. Kind of excessive but it works.

Otherwise I'd place it in a smaller sealed container with dessicants and oxygen absorbers.

And try to keep the ambient temperature stable on the cooler end

As far as moving get a foam block inside a padded case and hollow out a shape that it will fit in.

This is all overkill for a stone as they are typically stable, but you care a lot it so this ia the most you could do

This is exactly what I was hoping to find. I typically browse through all and picked lemm.ee for their moderation style.

I'm sad to see it go.

Both locally and during work travel through the southeastern US, I'm noticing a lot more agricultural fields being left fallow/abandoned. Usually by this point in the season fields would at least be cleared and planted, but many have been left un-plowed.

I'm also seeing a shift in crops being grown. Definently a lot more fields are growing hay than usual.

Farmers trying to respond to tariffs? Farmers opting to not lease lands leading to more empty fields?

Things in the US are increasingly unstable and the markets have begun reacting to that. It's not looking very promising right now.

Personally, I've begun trying to save as much money as possible and have stayed on top of my deep pantry. I've also stored even more food that I had before.

How is everyone else preparing for a recession? Any tips?

The national forest is doing more controlled burns, but I've never seen it so hazy before in town. It is currently raining ash across the whole city.

I saw a combination of TPD and State Troopers clearing out the very obvious gambling hall on the corner of Lake Bradford and Renfroe Valley St. They had a truck and we're loading up the machines. Couldn't find anything on the news about it yet, but I'll keep an eye out. I'm surprised the police let it operate for as long as they did.

Unrelated but I also saw a city bus had rear ended someone in front of the J. Edwin Larson Building on E. Gaines. No one was hurt, kinda funny

Edit: News article for gambling bust

Does anyone know of any bluesky accounts that feature tallahassee news and communities?

I did a general search, but didn't find much.

Also any other alternative social media options for tallahassee would be cool if you know any.

What is your unconventional prep. Something that you think is uncommon or weird, but will always keep extras of?

Personally I've been really big on keeping canned pumpkin on hand. While it's not the most nutrient dense food around it has the most fiber out of any canned item I can find and adds a new taste to everything. Goes great in mashed potatoes and soup.

Hi everyone this is just a simple welcome post. The community rules are simple, keep it related to Tallahassee and be nice.

So far there are no plans for the community, but suggestions are welcome. I hope to run this page in an open door and welcoming manner.
