The Xmas in Frisco station has some interesting finds. This is a good example

I think two things can be true...

  1. The film industry in Saudi Arabia is currently a more favorable environment for creative voices (compared to the cold, calculated movie executives in U.S.)
  2. They're funding it with blood money

One doesn't forgive, justify, or defend the other though

Pretty sure if you downloaded/updated from within the app you should be fine, as the threat is for net new installs

They're a powerless middleman, no?

If I recall correctly they removed all "journalism" references on their website a while back and published their own page of ethics

That's not true. The YouTube scam baiters are on the phone with the same scammers for many hours

This is because of excessive early production to curb scalpers. It's not a fair comparison

This is run by Kidzuko, a Sony Pictures Television Kids venture. Here's the launch press release. Personally, I'm not particularly trusting of them, just being an arm of a large company. I tried watching an episode and the tone seems pretty different. I know LeVar Burton had this Kickstarter which I guess turned into this Skybrary app after legal issues. It's unfortunate that something so nostalgic is just another IP that can be resurrected. But, it could be far worse

Huh. I've heard of Risk of Rain before but when Steam recommended it to me I thought it was a JRPG

First, does any phone running a legit copy of Android count as a "certified Android device"?

Yes

How can they enforce this for apps not on the play store?

Checks will be built into the operating system and run on install attempts

Like if write my own APK will my phone just refuse to run it if I don't go through some paperwork with Google?

Yes

How does that work?

TBD. Probably a database check

Like if they're capable of this then why aren't they doing it already to prevent piracy?

Piracy of what?

Not if you want a music player. They've added podcasts everywhere possible

While initially fun, the fact that it's limited to 7 levels is its Achilles' heel. It's relatively short and easy to win. That's not inherently bad, especially for a mobile game, but it's sort of counterintuitive for a roguelike IMO
