All things are going into an authoritarian direction which needs control of the opposition.

Now that we don't have a real president anymore Google started including white house announcements in Google News. I know every one of these is written by an idiot who is not qualified for their job so I turned them off. But why the fuck didn't they do this back when we actually had a real president and these announcements were legitimate newsworthy information? The announcements of a real president were never considered newsworthy information but the babblings of a traitorapist with the mind of a 13 year old are? Fuck you google!

With nobody to reign them in, they do all kinds of cool stuff

And they never ever ask themselves "Is this ethically the right thing to do". And so they create things that do way more harm for society than good. For selfish reasons, just because it is a "fun" project. And I'm sure management figures they will profit one way or another the more they control everything thru their AIs they shove on people.

We got baited by piece of shit journos

It's an official announcement written by Google.

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We've all done that. One time I posted something and forgot about it. Came back next day and found the first person to comment completely derailed what I was saying by mischaracterizing it. And then all the replies were about the mischaracterization and there were no replies to the substance of what I actually said.

It's pretty easy to imagine all the ways this technology can because a nightmare. Maybe Russia puts AI spies on your phone that listen to see if you say anything bad about Putin to the person you are talking to and then pings their police and tells them what you said. Fuck you google for creating this technology.

Oh, and if you are part of the vast majority of people who aren't going to fall for a random 'gift-card' scam, this AI will always be running constantly draining your battery anyway.

More than half of Americans reported receiving at least one scam call per day in 2024. To combat the rise of sophisticated conversational scams that deceive victims over the course of a phone call, we introduced Scam Detection late last year to U.S.-based English-speaking Phone by Google public beta users on Pixel phones.

We use AI models processed on-device to analyze conversations in real-time and warn users of potential scams. If a caller, for example, tries to get you to provide payment via gift cards to complete a delivery, Scam Detection will alert you through audio and haptic notifications and display a warning on your phone that the call may be a scam.

Being real upset that he’s trying to oust incumbents who refuse to do anything.

What you are saying sounds bad. But when I read your actual link, it does not sound bad at all.

["Let me be unequivocal: No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election, whether on behalf of an incumbent or a challenger," DNC Chair Ken Martin said on a media call. "Voters should decide who our primary nominees are, not DNC leadership.]

I don't like Ken Martin and I think Hogg is great, but what Martin is saying here are the precise words that every DNC chairman should be saying. I would not want Martin to change one single word of that statement.

We need time to build a leftist party

There have been such attempts over the previous 120 years. They were all failures because of structural reasons.

or to fundamentally change the Democratic party

Yes that would be fantastic and definitely needs to happen. And it will happen sooner or later. The problem is that we need much more "sooner" and much less "later". We only have so many years to live.

Stop giving the DNC money.

Nobody here gives the DNC any money. I agree that would be stupid because there are much better choices. Most of us don't give much money to politicians and usually only to a specific candidate. But if I was going to right now, I would funnel that money thru people like Sanders or AOC or Hoggs.

How about we finally start working towards a 3rd party?

What do you mean "finally"? People have been trying that over and over and failing for over 100 years. It would be great to have a multiparty system, but there are unintended structural forces in place that will always prevent that. None of us alive today created this system. We are all stuck with it just like you. But ignoring reality just makes someone into a lifetime loser. There is nothing you can gain by making yourself into a lifetime loser.

More states join lawsuit against North Texas-based RealPage, accused of artificially inflating housing costs

Data from the White House Council of Economic Advisors released last year showed the use of RealPage's algorithm added about $132 to monthly rent in 2023.

Washington State joined with more than a dozen states, accusing landlords of colluding to inflate rents through price-fixing, Washington's Attorney General Nick Brown said last month.

Vice President JD Vance traveled to Capitol Hill late Wednesday to cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate that killed a bipartisan effort to rebuke President Donald Trump’s trade policy.

Earlier in the evening, the Senate rejected the resolution that would have effectively blocked Trump’s global tariffs by revoking the emergency order the president is using to enact them. Two senators who were set to vote for the resolution, Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, were absent, allowing the resolution to fail 49-49.

In March, President Trump issued an executive order aiming to eliminate the data silos that keep everything separate. Historically, much of the data collected by the government had been heavily compartmentalized and secured; even for those legally authorized to see sensitive data, requesting access for use by another government agency is typically a painful process that requires justifying what you need, why you need it, and proving that it is used for those purposes only. Not so under Trump.

The U.S. dollar dropped in value by about a tenth against a basket of currencies in the last few weeks, including against the euro, pound, Swiss franc, and yen.

"There have been embarrassing accounting errors, lots of public statements that turned out to be false or misleading, or actions slapped back by the courts."

"The spending savings are so small that they will be undoubtedly overwhelmed by the significant tax revenue losses which result from gutting IRS tax enforcement," Riedl tells Axios.
