He is for the military what Donald Trump is for business. He’s a weak, stupid person’s idea of a tough, smart military man.

Literally played one on TV (Fox News), just like Trump.

Wait until you find out how steam works

I’m just going by 100% of the instructions online, which all say “until it boils.”

Southern Living, The Kitchn, The Spruce, Good Housekeeping all say “boil”

Wirecutter doesn’t specifically say boil but it uses the same time that all the other sources do, which is 5 minutes. In my experience, two cups of water will easily boil in 4.5 minutes in most microwaves (cheap potatoes), so there you go. Vinegar or lemon juice isn’t far from water’s boiling temperature.

I never noticed until today, when Pete has been in the news so much -- are those his military medals he wears on his suit all the time? Is that the type of thing he is allowed to do if he is not in uniform? I've never served so I don't know.

I don’t think so, I’m pretty sure it’s an American flag handkerchief folded so part is showing. You can see it on his Wikipedia photo where it is more clearly a flag.

I would suggest he’s making it thin on purpose so it looks like medals nowadays though.

Medals are I think most often worn in uniform. He is wearing a designer suit, so would look weird if he wore his medals on his suit OR the uniform of his former service, so he settles for the thin American flag of respectability.

Specifically, microwave it until it boils. In case that wasn’t obvious.

I remember that episode super well too!! It’s crazy how hit or miss season 11 was.

Behind the Laughter is one of my favorites too, but I very clearly remember Saddlesore Galactica being a dud.

To give a sense of “past the peak,” a lot of people put the “peak years” of the Simpsons ending prior to season 9.

Who Shot Mr. Burns is in season 6. The conclusion was the first episode of season 7.

I extend the tail of the “peak” a little further because I like episodes like “Pygmoelian” and “Kill the Alligator and Run” in season 11.

…The first movie was released around season 18.

When I saw the movie I found it a pleasant return to the funniness of previous seasons.

I kind of wonder if they’re doing it because they can.

They know exactly how long it takes to produce voice-acting and animation, because they’ve been doing it for 37 seasons.

Not only is the title hilarious…

Specifically, [Dave] is using bifacial solar panels– panels that have cells on both sides. In his preferred orientation, one side faces South, while the other faces North. [Dave] is in the Northern Hemisphere, so those of you Down Under would have to do the opposite, pointing one face North and the other South.

I just finished The Long Walk and I really liked it. I read it a decade or more ago, but I appreciated it more this time.

I like books about death sports so it’s right up my alley. They finally released Battle Royale as a digital book so I would like to read it as well, but its length (800 pages!) is intimidating.

I also finished The Neverending Story, which I enjoyed but not as much as the much shorter first movie.

I started reading a few things.

The End of the World as We Know It is a short story collection that explores the world of Stephen King’s super-flu-ridden The Stand. I’m really liking it so far! The stories do a good job of further illustrating the world as it breaks down.

I also started a biography about one of my favorite people in vintage professional wrestling, Gorilla Monsoon. It just came out today and I’ve been looking forward to it. I’ve always been fascinated by him and no one else has written a book yet!

The Offspring are a band who gained popularity in the mid-1990s with a song about gang violence that said “You gotta keep em separated.” Dexter Holland is the lead singer.

He was in school as a molecular biologist when he was first in the Offspring. He was going to get a PhD but the Offspring became too popular.

He actually went back to school and got his PhD later, in 2017.

Relatedly, Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, has an PhD in astrophysics and his song ‘39 is about the effects of special relativity.

Sorry for all the text, this is one of my special interests I guess. Edited for possibly improved clarity.

I thought this was a useful part of the article:
