People seem to think it's worth playing, but nothing revolutionary. It seems that there isn't a map?

The first one didn't grab me, but I hear that they've really refined the details I didn't like. I'll have to give it another go. January is shaping into a good month for metroidvanias!

Decades after the events of ENDER LILIES, Homunculi — sorrowful, artificial life forms — roam the land. In this dark fantasy Metroidvania, face formidable enemies and explore a bewitching post-apocalyptic world. Humans and Homunculi — what awaits at the end of the quest for their salvation?

I've seen multiple reviews that say it's good, but not great. Solid game if you like the genre.

Hunt the monsters and solve the mysteries of the abandoned mothership floating in vast space to confront your twin sister and prevent her from unleashing a cosmic catastrophe. In this dark fantasy Metroidvania you must explore and find your way through the horrors and kill everything in your way.

Capture monsters to use them against the scientists who created you. Sail the open ocean in a stolen boat belonging to your captors, and destroy their failed experimental creatures to put an end to the creation of the Synth Beasts.

Delve into the world of Super Roboy, a hand-drawn Metroidvania in a post-apocalyptic setting! Learn enemy skills, explore an interconnected world, battle mutants and robots, and uncover the emotional story of a young robot searching for his father.

A decent amount of 9/10s and and good handful of 7.5/10s. The worst people say is that it plays it safe.

Explore a dark and sinister Osaka as the Demon Hunter Shin. Battle demons, regain lost skills, and uncover the truth of your forgotten past in this exciting occult-inspired cyberpunk metroidvania.

ReSetna is an action-adventure with fast-paced combat and intense battles set in a fractured, post-apocalyptic world. Fight through hordes of corrupted machines, upgrade your abilities, traverse treacherous environments and explore to uncover the truth of what happened.

Every review I found raves about this game…

I’m down! As long as they work their way to “E.T. Rising”

I didn't get to posting about it, but I saw last week the announcement about "Beyond the Ice Palace 2", which is the metroidvania sequel to a 1988 Amiga game. Bizarre that now is the time to cash in on the social capital these two games have built up over the years 🤷🏼

I bought it after the positive reviews and have only been able to get to the city after the prologue, so you’re already farther than myself. But part of why I put it down was because it felt too soon to introduce this reprieve from the Metroidvania gameplay loop.

I have every faith that it’ll “get to the good stuff”, but I did have a similar feeling to you. I’m going to give it another hour in a bit.

There's a demo on Steam

I love it. Funniest play I’ve seen in a long time.

His explanation

Maybe it would've been better if he had made the shot, but give them something to laugh about, some excitement.

I haven't played it, but I hear really good things about this retro-3D metroidvania called Pseudoregalia

They slipped the release date to April 5, 2024

I don't know if you played Laika: Aged Though Blood, but I'm curious out the biking mechanic compares. (Also had a killer sound-track, albeit a very different tone/style)

FYI: c/metroidvanias

Love both, and very excited for their next game, No Rest for the Wicked - which I don’t know if it’s been said explicitly, but is rumored to also be a Metroidvania.

I know it might be a little cliché, but I would still rank Hollow Knight as my #1 Metroidvania, but these two are my #2A and #2B, even after loving the new Prince of Persia. The level of polish is incredible and Wisps just cranked it up even more.

I enjoyed the video the IGN posted about them yesterday.

Just saw it in the update. Thank you!!

I don’t know, but I have a feeling it doesn’t. He just pushed a blog post on it and I’m reading it now

They have private/internal APIs that they get grumpy at you for using because you can circumvent ads. The goal with this app was to not make Google grumpy.

EDIT: got to the answer - no.

Does it block ads? It doesn’t, I don’t think Google would like that, but if you have YouTube Premium you won’t see ads, just like the website. Honestly, YouTube Premium is like one of the most essential subscriptions for me, it’s so handy to never worry about ads and it’s pretty cool in that it also supports the creators substantially more than if you watched ads. So I dunno, if you can afford an expensive Apple Vision Pro, I’d really consider treating yourself to YouTube Premium!
