Most people have had these accounts from before AI was in the zeitgeist. They're essentially feeling locked in or too lazy to change.
Before streaming, I would need to wait for the next VHS or DVD to arrive at the store to see what happened next. Evangelion in particular only had the last VHS in Japanese in my local store (I was young and preferred the dubs). It was fun waiting for the next one to come out. Gave me something to look forward to.
Same goes for Berserk 97. When I found out the last DVD was it for the series, I was like WHAT? Surely there will be follow up.
And now it's 2025. They tried a few times but we all know what happened.
Most I talk to say they're getting what they voted for and they're still happy.
