Proton is nice for degoogling because it offers the whole suite. I will also think really hard whether I'll renew once the time comes. Don't want ti go through the whole process again but there certainly is sour after taste with Proton these days

I like to ask people for their opinions

Going to take this opportunity to ask if anyone knows about a good alternative?

[–] illi@lemm.ee 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's not that the later (and especially the last) seasons were lesser quality, it's that it made rewatching the whole show pointless. Before every new season I rewatched the whole thing. Loved it.

Now, even when I think that I'd like to rewatch it sometime I realize there is no point in doing that. It sucked the enjoyment out of everything that came before.

First two are collections of short stories so there is no big time invesment with testing it out. You can try the waters and see how you like the style and if you don't like it enough to continue, at least you have a book that works on its own.

Nah. My wife also tries to remember the games I play and sometimes almost succeeds like this. This is close enough from a non-gamer wife

Yes, but them not calling it out in the article makes me thing this is not the case here. If it would be done locally, it would not be as bad. But I somehow doubt it would be.

Yes, books came out some years before games. I think around late 80s/early 90s. My understanding is in Poland even people not usually into fantasy know of the books. And it is a classic in the surrounding region.

Games are fairly faithful to the books, at least in spirit. There are some problematic things lore wise that they did in games but I can understand why with most. No adaptation can be 1:1 and I understand it. Overall, I'm happy with how the games ended up.

First game, I didn't like that much though. One thing is that the age is showing on the gameplay. I could get over that, but the story also recycled too many things from the books. The main story is its own thing, but there are many story beats that felt copied, with some things changed up to mask it. Pretty sure some sidequests were just stories from books, but with diferent characters. I like a good callback, but this game went a bit too far with them for my taste (also didn't help I read the books just before going into the game - so it was all fresh in my mind).

Story wasn't bad overall, but it broke the immersion and I just couldn't get over it. This in combination with the aged gameplay just made me look for a recap and play the Witcher 2 instead.

Stoked for the announced remake of the Witcher 1 though.

I'm a huge Witcher fan and couldn't stomach the first game unfortunately. Luckily there is a neat recap video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X52-ssOk2KM

I do recommend playing the second one before the third though, even though the stories are standalone.

I do recommend the books if you feel like it. Books -> Witcher 1 recap vid -> Witcher 2 -> Witcher 3 is my recommendation for best experience.

Article doesn't state this but I assume this is done via Copilot, so anything you use it on goes direct to Microsoft cloud, right?

The other bloke also said he won't invade in another phone call so...

With this one we can at least be fairly certain he tells the truth.

Hey all, I was wondering what do y'all think about the game after the recent relaunch. What is the state of things? Is it worth returning and if so, does it make sense to start anew on new servers, or just continue with the old character?

I don't have the Angry Earth expac so mainly wondering if it is worth the additional buy in price.

I prefer podcasts with at least two people, infotmational but also with some fun banter in between. Couldn't find anything like that - not many active ones in general that I could find.

Podcasts that don't meet above criteria also welcome. Though would be best if it is active podcats that still gets new episodes

I didn't follow the game super closely but it looked nice. Shame we will never get to try it at least.

So I finally bit the bullet, installed a second SSD and put Linux on it to test the waters. Tested out GW2 as a non steam game via Wine and while it runs, it runs very poorly with constant frame drops. Did anyone else try? How was your experience?

I have Nvidia GPU which I gather might be the most likely culprit but was interested in what your experience might've been.

More details in a MOP article here

I thought I'd try GW2 after years of not playing (last I played was PoE era, bounced off fully before Icebrood saga) and finally managed to get into it!

I used to live and breath this game and while I was not what you'd call "hardcore" player, I knew about everything going on. Now I'm totally in the black which is weird. I try not to get it to me, I just play through the Icebrood saga story now and try my best not to open inventory and achievement tabs etc to not get discouraged. GW2 was always a bit convoluted, but with so much added in the meantime, it's much.

How do you deal with this? What would be your recommendations for me to "ease into it"? What should I engage after getting my groove back in the story? How to dip my toes slowly into buildcrafting? What new systems should I check out?

Bonus question: would you expect the xpacs to go on sale anytime soon? Next one should be around the corner by now, no?

I know many people were waiying for this so thought I'd share.

I don't play Albion much, fresh start might be interesting but not keen on regrinding stuff... How about you?
