Update: We spent several hours learning about Treasure Islands, using Twitch may be better but far too many hoops to jump through for me. The Pange Plays website is easier. The biggest problem for me was it made the game too easy, it may be OK if all I wanted to do is decorate an island to impress others. Maybe if you needed something like fish bait, but then they have fish you can donate, why fish if you can just grab what you need. The free islands I listed do not have art work or items you purchase but everything else. It was interesting, just need to be patient, other players are always coming or leaving. We are restarting my island again, my favorite time in the game is the first day, not having anything but lots of ideas and challenges. It is nice to know about Treasure Islands, and I do not see it any different than people visiting other islands to get free stuff.

Thanks for the information

I read about treasure islands many times and yesterday visited one of the free islands by Pange Plays? It was very interesting, looked like it had everything a player would need to get an island to level 5. I think it had 6 free islands with all the raw materials, bells, gold nuggets, star fragments, diys etc . Some things looked like it was better to avoid, such as the bridge construction diy and I avoided the section with creatures. In addition to bells, it had Royal Crowns - 20 will get you 6 million bells at Nooks Cranny. The web page constantly listed who was on each island, along with the current dodo code and a map showing where things were located. The only down side was waiting often as players come and go , and we did get booted when someone left silently. We ended up spending over an hour, looking at various things available on several of the free islands. We live in USA and early morning seemed to be a better time, all 6 free as islands have status updates so you know how busy they are when you visit the website. The free islands are impressive, but there is a paid subscription, about $5 a month for artwork and other harder to get items.

I often read about problems after using treasure islands, but the DIY seemed OK, as well as the items we picked up. Overall not much different than visiting any other island with a giveaway. Well, the island looked different, flat with no sea.

Here is the website, but be careful, you visit at your own risk. I can not say it is safe, it seemed OK to me.

We restarted my island last Tuesday (game date Dec 31, 2024), last evening we got the weather seed it looks like this:

[–] jeljr@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Weather Seeds show the exact times for shooting stars, as well as rain, and other weather conditions. We use it mostly for shooting stars, likewise if we know there will be shooting stars we can look for Celeste to get star related diys. Celeste is not there every time there are shooting stars. Knowing when it will be raining helps with getting bugs and the rain fish.

At one time we only used time travel for short periods, now we leave the Switch stay there for weeks at a time. We keep the same day of the week, and time of day, just a different starting date.

Interesting, we just got Avery, our 10th villager today. I restart my Southern Hemisphere island often, I really like the first couple days on a new island. The last 3 islands we Timed Travelled to the first week of January to start, it is a great time for a Southern Hemisphere island, great fishing and lots of bugs.

ACNH is the only game we play, so setting the clock to January does not create any problems. We may time travel within the same day to meet our schedule but do not do any serious time travel until we get the beautify ordinance. We found that most times our Southern Hemisphere island will get shooting stars in early January, so at night I may use a cheap, less than $10 HDMI video capture card and record several hours of the night sky to watch later and get the weather seed as soon as posssible after an island restart. Tomorrow the Beautify Ordinance goes in effect and we will work on the fish and bugs first to fill the museum. We don't always finish the museum, some times it may need 1 or two fossils or a statue we can not get.

About 2 years ago my wife was able to get blue roses in about 60 days, it was Northern Hemisphere during the snow season. We tried using the same method at the same time in the Southern Hemisphere (summer) but did not do as good and finally gave up. She was extra careful to make sure she did not mix flowers, kept them well isolated. She did not allow them together until step 4, then she kept all the step 4 hybrid red roses together. It took up a lot of room isolating each pair to make sure they did not cross bred with the wrong flower. Each step she planted a new seed flower. We had flowers everywhere, every time we got a hybrid we moved it to a different spot and planted a seed flower next to it. If the pair produced anything other than the desired hybrid flower, it was trashed so not to get them mixed.

I pretty sure this is the method she used:

Step 1 : Seed White + Seed White = Purple

Step 2 : Purple from Step 1 + Seed Red = Pink

Step 3 : Pink from previous step + Seed Yellow = Hybrid Red

Step 4 : Hybrid Red from previous step + Hybrid Red from previous step = blue

Sorry, I should have said my wife and I play every day, we have our own islands. This community is not very active, do not know how many still play. I prefer Lemmy World but Reddit is better for active ACNH players.

Very good, we play every day.

Do you play ACNH?

Grandpa from New Home coming to visit..?.

Interesting setup, I did see a few empty spots in the row of bags with bells, so I added a few (not much of a donation)

Not many active posters here.

My wife and I play ACNH every day, she has a NH island and I have a SH island that I restart often . I think Feb 4 is the last restart, but I time traveled to Jan 1, 2025. We are into the basics, last evening my wife caught 29 dorados (15k bells each) on a mystery island, today we got the new Residential Services building and now she has 40 pocket spaces , so she will be trying it again to see if she can get 39 . The first couple weeks on a new island are my favorite part of the game.

Yes, you are correct, at one time using blank NFC tags was considered the best method.

The big difference is the little unit I described is ready to go, the only thing you need to know is the amiibo number for the character you want if you do not want to edit the file names. They have a chart with pictures to look up the character, but it follows the same as the regular amiibo. For example, Avery is 140, you scroll down to AC 101 -200 and in that folder select AC 140.bin and hold the unit near the pro controller and it calls Avery. It is really fast at Harvey's Island doing group pictures.

I think they have every amiibo currently available already in this newest system, but I only know about ACNH , and it seems complete . I have no experience with the amiibo characters for the other games, we only play ACNH.

We have been using amiibo cards for two years but recently learned about the newer NFC emulators, we are experimenting with the newest model from joysfusion.com and really like it with ACNH

https://joysfusion.com/codenames/ lists the amiibo characters

It lists all the files as numbers, but you can edit the filenames to list villagers by name. We have not tried to add amiibo .bin files and have not tried using it on other games. Updating requires windows Chrome browser (can be run in a VM ) and Bluetooth 4.0 or more. We did have trouble getting the Bluetooth to pair, but did get it. They use a web page, to pair and edit the files, but you can download the complete webpage from a link on their discord channel, if you want to work offline. It is about $40 US on Amazon, a fraction of what we paid for our amiibo card collection

ON EDIT:

The unit is small and seems fragile, it may not be a good choice for children that are rough with their toys.

I had to restart my island and keep it from progressing because I wanted this video. Last year I did not think of recording it, but this year I was prepared.

I spent about a half hour with Google support, until he told me to remove and reinstall my Google account and I lost the chat. It took a long time to get to that chat, but I think it is a Google problem not Boost.

Originally, I tried using a family group payment to remove the ads, my wife tried but failed to get it to work. We ended up deleting the family group but now whenever I try to pay it gives me a message to wait or ask the group manager to deny the request - problem is the request is history with no way to access it again. Google support was worthless, had me try different devices and resetting things but I tried until I was cut off after clearing my Google account and starting it again. I will gladly pay but unable to pay, all I get is a message telling me to wait 24 hours, even though it has been over 24 hours.

After we deleted the group , my wife had no trouble paying to remove the ads on her tablet, and as I wrote we deleted the family group, it is gone. Maybe if I could purchase Boost for Lemmy before I install it, things will go better. We both have Samsung S6 lites using LineagesOS 20, updated weekly. I do not think it is the tablets, Google support had me try it on my Chromebook and it was the same.

Once again, I think it is a Google family group payment problem, but thought I better mention it.

We are considering replacing our 58" 1080p plasma TV. It has minor to moderate screen burn in from CCTV and hoping the included scrolling program fixes it, but also looking at a new TV. Good upscaling is the most important feature as we still have mostly lower quality videos. Likewise we play ACNH every day so a TV that does good upscaling of the Nintendo Switch is ideal.

If you have any TV recommendations from personal experience, please post it. There is no rush to buy, we are very early in the product research process, and have not yet decided a price range. I did read the budget TV brands do not do a very good job of upscaling. However if ACNH players are using 4K (60 + inch) and happy with their set up, we would like to learn more about it.

Thanks

Joe
