Progressive rendering

This is really interesting. Now I wonder: would it be possible to use the same image for thumbnail and full view and instead control its display by maximum allowed transfer percentage? For example, by default, for thumbnails, all images on page are served only up to 15% of their full size, and when you click on them, the same image resumes downloading to 100% size. I mean, it's definitely possible to implement this, but it would be nice to see this widely supported without getting too hacky.

I'm not sure, do you mean wallpaper sauce, or live photo of setup, or more screenshots with apps? I added screenshot to original post soon after posting, but edits can be problematic to sync.

I use it together with plasmashell, not as replacement. I rebound "win+space" to trigger Noctalia instead. I use Noctalia as top panel and I use 5 extra KDE panels stylized with panel-colorizer in "dodge windows" mode. To use Noctalia I simply added "noctalia" into normal KDE autostart apps. Noctalia also automatically recognizes KDE/Plasma virtual desktops as workspaces.

I've been using Noctalia 5 on regular KDE/Plasma for a month or two. Currently it uses 53.9 MiB RAM according to ps_mem.

what would the benefits of k8s be?

Compared to what? Manually running software on machines? Automatic distribution of work, automatic networking, linking/transfer of resources, etc. I think their scenarios are often oneshot tasks that need to run somewhere and produce results that get used in other tasks or aggregated somewhere, etc.

How much RAM do you think they have? I think a top-notch scientific machine from literally 20 years ago might have like 4GB RAM, maybe a bit more. I'm not sure about non-control-plane kubelet runtime overhead, I see online sources showing numbers as little as 30MB, and as big as 1GB. But even with 1GB you will still have 3GB for work.

Video sure looks like this, but they have the tech, they describe it like something that can actually be used to divide screen into NxM areas and send representation of each area to neurons for example. And even that would be extremely naive approach ofc. But that's beside the point. To me the most concerning thing here is that they already have this setup and it sounds like they even provide API to use it for external projects.

Rocket missing a military target sometimes means a rocket incidentally hitting a civilian object, so not good. All kinds of rockets and drones are used to hit targets in all major cities. They're not only used for some standalone objects in the middle of nowhere.

For previous vaccines for which we have data, the average period between microbe isolation and vaccine development was 48 years, with a record of about four years. The average time between vaccine development and 40 percent coverage was 42 years, with a record of 14 years for rotavirus. For COVID-19, the period between microbe isolation and vaccine development was less than a year, and between vaccine development and 40 percent coverage just 11 months.

So my personal standard "lets wait 2 decades" isn't even that big, because average is 4 decades.

What corner was cut for the Covid-19 vaccine?

I don't know that in detail and I didn't research it. In my country this virus wasn't such an overwhelming question of life and death as it was in US, apparently. There was no dilemma of "vax risk vs covid death", it was a bit scary in the news at first, but almost invisible flu that not many really reported at all in media and I don't personally know anyone who was even sure they had it or died from it. From this thread I get it that it was some kind of plague in US where literally everybody were dying left and right from this virus. In this context your collective defense of vaccine and peer pressure on ever questioning it makes some sense. In my case, it wasn't even important enough to research vaccine situation, it's just more reasonable to question the vaccine in absence of longer timeframes of data, because the virus itself isn't even scary enough. I expect scary enough virus to be observable empirically and socially, not only in numbers given from above.
