Isn’t that literally hell?

[–] Damage@feddit.it 19 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but rip and tearing hell instead of suffering it

It's 1990, after an explosion who killed you you're placed in half life. The problem with Jory in the Sanitarium has been solved.

Researchers have found a solution to people with psychic powers eating other people in the same structure.

By working with people from the new id psychic software studio they devised an alternate reality where other patients are transformed into imps and other hellish creatures. Patients are provided with an array of guns to defend themselves from attacks.

Level 2, pick up your shotgun.

Is this the minimum number of braincells needed to play Doom? 🤔

Hey don't taunt them just because they don't got enough brain cells.

[–] kalkulat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

This research was in Australia, you'll have to ask there.

Just hook up one neuron to a B button a controller.

That's how low the bar is for "science" under capitalism.

I want to switch the Timeline, please.

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 week ago

*sigh* fine, switching to another timeline...

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah, so they're skipping basic testing and heading straight for the final task training

[–] kalkulat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Ha ha! These are 'human neurons' ... the end result probably resembles what we've already got. Get 'em fooled about what reality is, and profit.

Couldn’t we put them somewhere nicer like sdv? Doom feels mean.

They can't see the game, so I don't think it matters. They just experience a stimulation in one area of their clump when a daemon appears on one side of the screen.

For all we know, they see Jesus and their reaction is to say hello, which the scientists translate to "shoot"

[–] CentauriBeau@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

We later learned these neurons were some of the first placed in SkyNet AI.

[–] aim4harmony@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Reminds me of brains in a jar or similar shit from cartoons. 😅

This phony BS again? Nobody has talked about this grift for months with good reason.

Hooking up a meatwad to a "shoot" button and a left/right sensor is not "learning to play 'DOOM'". The video doesn't even show the meatwad playing except maybe for a few cherry picked seconds.

The "biotech" grift preceded the "AI" grift but neither ever ended.

[–] skaffi 2 points 1 week ago

Look, if you don't like the meatwad, there are plenty other wads available!

[–] lil_baka@ani.social 1 points 1 week ago

Video sure looks like this, but they have the tech, they describe it like something that can actually be used to divide screen into NxM areas and send representation of each area to neurons for example. And even that would be extremely naive approach ofc. But that's beside the point. To me the most concerning thing here is that they already have this setup and it sounds like they even provide API to use it for external projects.

Worlds first is kind of annoying. Because tbh I assumed this was the Thought Emporiums project ...

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Hiw many neurons to run doom?

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

The other screens are so they feel at home?

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

But can you play doom on them though?
