probably right that a so-called-AI software can assist a teacher in making sure all students get to be on the same page

BIG nope to this. Source: I teach at a university. AI actively hinders my teaching. 99% of my students use AI and I have to constantly fight it or correct it. My job would be easier without AI.

Yep. 200% agree. I still post questions on SO, but when I don't get any answers, then I have to go to Discord... :(

the whole XY Problem

lol. I hate this. Just answer the damn question or don't. I'm not asking you to validate if what I'm doing is weird or not. It's weird! I know! That's none of your business. Just answer the damn question or don't. Simple as.

Even without LLMs, it’s possible StackOverflow would have eventually faded into irrelevance

Yeah, exactly. A lot of groups have a Discord :( or other forums where people ask questions. I know I've had to ask questions on Svelte's Discord :( for example. And I think even once on some YouTube influencer's Slack...

Sucks cuz both of those places are silos and my questions and answers are forever lost.

The relevant parts:

“The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender” is being pushed back from Jan. 30 to Oct. 9, 2026.

As previously announced, Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun and Eric Nam will headline the voice cast for “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.” Lauren Montgomery is set to direct and William Mata is on board as co-director.

The film takes place years after the events of 2005’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” which followed then-12-year-old Aang — a long-lost Avatar who learned to master the elements and save the globe from the ruthless Fire Nation.

YES! Nextcloud is actually kinda good. I was skeptical for a long time, but I've changed my mind recently.

If you don't want to self-host (I'm not there yet, it seemed like a pain at first glance), then there are 2 online hosting providers that I've used recently.

  • nubo.coop fully manages Nextcloud for you, you just use it as a normal SaaS
  • northmail.ca also Nextcloud as a service, same as Nubo

Nubo is in Europe, while Northmail is in Canada.

They both offer email, notes, calendars, contacts, cloud file storage. Nubo also offers a tasks app, while Northmail doesn't yet.

I'm in the US, so Nubo was a little slow for me. I've been using Northmail for about 1 week now. Northmail's Nextcloud instance is faster for me. Northmail also uses a way more recent version of Nextcloud. Nubo's Nextcloud is pretty old. Northmail is also offering 100GB for $0.99 CAD per month, which is way more than Nubo.

I had to move off Nubo because my bank doesn't do international wires.

If Northmail adds Nextcloud Tasks, then I will have everything I want from Northmail!

we've seemingly been duped into working for free to increase the company valuation and therefore shareholders' capital – with the possible intention of selling the company or otherwise monetizing the project.

Ah, are they considering a rugpull?

Nice. Hosting on a LAN+VPN is probably what I would do next time. I tried deploying on a public cloud with 2GB of memory and I started receiving memory usage alerts almost immediately on an empty instance with everything disabled, except image previews. I didn't want to rent an even more expensive instance. I bet it runs great with a ton of memory and CPU.

Source First License 1.1: https://gitlab.futo.org/videostreaming/grayjay/-/blob/master/LICENSE.md

This is a non-open source license. They were claiming to be open source at one point, but they've listened to the community and stopped claiming they were open source. They are not trying to be Open Source™.

They call themselves "source first". https://sourcefirst.com/

They're trying to create a world where developers can make money from writing source first software, where the big tech oligarchy can't just suck them dry.

Those commitments and principles are under threat. Synadia, the original donor of the NATS project, has notified CNCF of its intention to “withdraw” the NATS project from the foundation and relicense the code under the Business Source License (BUSL)—a non-open source license that restricts user freedoms and undermines years of open development.

The full quote in dirty imperial units:

I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I’m free.

– The Fast and the Furious

How was this translated to metric?

How often does Organic Maps pull map updates from OpenStreetMap? Can I manually trigger the update or do I have to wait? Does the update happen automatically or do I have to delete the current map data I have and then redownload it?

I've been messing around with Magic Earth and Organic Maps recently.

I immediately noticed that when I type a home address in Magic Earth, the app can take me to the exact house on the block.

However, when I type the same home address in Organic Maps, the app can only take me to the street where the house is. It can find the exact house.

Why is this the case? I thought both Magic Earth and Organic Maps used the same map data behind the scenes...
