I like how the /s wasn't even necessary on this.

There's been some talk of possible money laundering I saw on some threads in other Lemmy communities recently. I suppose that's possible. We may never know.

I haven't once said anyone was wrong. What they said is immaterial to what I was originally talking about. I was pointing critique/concerns/feelings towards the present day tech industry as a whole.

I kinda expect the guys who are investing in something they hope to see a positive return on to try to calm everyone down. That's why I don't give a shit what either of them said; its predictable and they don't like the internal disruption. It costs company time/money money to put out that fire. Their priorities dont align with the staff.

My comment was aimed at the tech industry as a whole.

Let's call it what it is in tech right now; it's a supply chain attack against the whole industry. We're being told to grab a bowl of this shit stew of venture capital, solidified grifts, and xenophobia with a side of Elon styled political activism.

These fascists have bought, bullied, or got backing from fellow fascists to coopt the F/OSS community with sums of money not commonly used in this space. Elon bought a whole social media platform to craft it into a fascist/Nazi hellscape, strictly to sway public opinion.

These guys are taking it even further; the very tools and means of production are being setup as a deeper rot in tech.

The same fuckheads in DHH's orbit are only a few contacts away from Elon himself. We developers of all stripes need to move our projects off of corpo services. Self host your repo, partner up with like minded devs, make software for the people who need it.

Blue Swriley Head Guy, aka Lorenzo Swirlington, III, Esq. fought for more, but alas he was pulled into a swirly abyss before his goal was realized 💙

Great minds think alike! I ended up installing it last night. I need to fiddle with the font size of the keys to better accommodate my fingers, but it's a good replacement so far.

Damnit. I'm using the FUTO swipe keyboard straight from their fdroid repo.

You know what?

Fuck that. As an open source dev, my solidarity is needed, and it isn't lesser than the convenience their keyboard gives. It may be a small gesture, but it's better than ignoring my principles.

It really has. We're so conditioned into accepting this abusive relationship where we can't opt out of questionable stipulations during signups and purchases.

When I saw this earlier today, I almost just mindlessly consented without a 2nd thought. What stopped me was wondering:

  • what shitty thing they got in trouble for
  • if this a precursory legal maneuver because our user data has been compromised
  • or if they are doing wholesale transactions with data brokerages, AI companies, law enforcement, etc.

I'm about ready to just leave the fucking job hunt and start my own business. Been at it since last May and have landed a total of 5 interviews.

This is for U.S. users. I linked to their Terms of Service for full text. You have to contact them via info on that page to opt out, however, this lovely popup doesn't let you proceed until you click the pretty blue button.

I like the software, so I'll overlook it's shady deeds.
