devs are discussing a search implementation similar to this in upcoming updates, though im not sure how long this will take.

Yeah it is an issue and it is encouraged that you join an already existing group. Over time it think it will balance out and the default groups will become prominent.

Content movement: from the home screen when I select all, there is a loading period and the posts are populated. However as new instances collect everything just piles into the top making pics/posts I’m looking at move and self close. Is this expected behavior?

  • This is a known but that will be addressed in the next update 0.18.

Ranking: imo the breakthrough reddit provided was in aggregating and ranking via votes. Whether it is through hot, controversial, top, etc there is an underlying algorithm that orders the posts. Due to the way content seems to come in from instances, I seem to get two different behaviors. The main page is either blocks of rank lists from each instance instead of a single rank order or the setting (hot, activity, top, etc) just doesn’t seem to apply. The linked image is a screenshot of an attempt to filter all by top of week. The top posts have 1-2 votes on them.

  • This is also a known but that is being addressed though im not sure when a fix for it is due, most likely in 0.18 or 0.18.1.

I had a quick look, most of the posts are 2+ years old, lemmy doesn't pull commemts from before the server/community was searched and federated. All new comments will be pushed through.

Yeah the communities filter is broken atm, hopefully the next update will sort it out.

So this doesn't show up for you?

Did you do a page refresh after trying again? Search is still quite buggy atm. I just did a quick search an those 2 communities are coming up for me.

That means that there are 2 separate communities, one on lemmy.ml and one on lemmy.world. You can choose to join either or both. They will have separate admins and are hosted on their respective servers.

Its all a byproduct of of the overloading lemmy.ml are experiencing

Yeah the subscribe pending is most likely their end, alot of instances are being slammed atm with so many new users, what community is it your trying to subscribe to?
