To be fair, that grey tree trunk looked a lot like a road

If he yells "free Palestine" while doing it, that means he's associating himself with others who support a free Palestine. And that means other people won't want to associate themselves with them.

I feel like this is very obvious but people seem unwilling to acknowledge it. Because they view this guy as on their side. But he's on the side of narcissists, not people who are effective at saving Palestinian lives. He didn't think at all about whether this will save or cost Palestinian lives.

I feel like the free Palestine movement in particular needs to understand this: if you want to save Palestinian lives, you need to convince people. And you don't convince people by shooting at them, or by justifying people who shoot at them. Think about it: do you see Coke murdering Pepsi supporters as part of a marketing campaign? No. Because the people they hire for marketing are paid a lot of money to actually succeed. Instead they associate coke with positive things, by bringing in celebrities, and generally portraying coke drinkers as cool people.

You should try being more like coke. Sorry if this sounds belittling, but I feel like it needs to be said because free Palestine people seem to think the best strategy is to piss off the people you're trying to convince. And that has never worked once in the history of mankind.

It's not that no one cares, it's that people who do care don't want to be associated with others who care like this guy.

It wouldn't be a Trump administration without reality TV drama. That harms millions of people.

Or vote against the one party (starts with an R) that continues to make the duopoly happen by banning RCV, and for the party (starts with a D) that's far more likely to implement RCV.

~~The party~~ The people that vote in the primaries for the party that claims to be “for the people” keeps putting centrists in charge.

Most people don't vote in the Democratic primaries. Did you?

I mean it's easy to say these were the good guys and they were killing the bad guys so it was great. But look at it without that context and it's pretty hard to justify. Sure, if Mussolini would've been put on trial the result would've been the same. But his mistress?

[–] rational_lib@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If we assume the first round goes the same, but without a spoiler effect third parties would do better in the first round.

fighting fascism effectively would have entailed hanging Trump after J6.

And how would that happen? After all, the Supreme Court gave him immunity, and all Democrats controlled was the presidency. So you're saying Joe Biden should've told the Supreme Court and every other court to suck it, and used I assume the military to arrest and execute Trump while skipping due process?

I don't think that's fighting fascism. That's implementing it.

What needed to happen was for Trump to not win a second time. Had he died at home peacefully we wouldn't be in the shit right now, and we wouldn't have even needed to do the fascism ourselves to stop it. People just needed to fucking stop the fascist from winning the election.

Number of their own people disappeared for speech. If people aren't allowed to even speak about changing things, then there's no hope of improvement.

And yes, Lemmy is banned in China.

Instant runoff voting, then third parties

This is one of the 59 Afrikaners personally welcomed at Dulles airport by the deputy secretary of State and in what Marco Rubio called a "tremendous accomplishment". That's the same Marco Rubio who personally cancelled visas of darker skinned people who signed Gaza protest letters.

Racism is the goal, protecting jews is the excuse.

See? Not everyone is losing money due to Trump's administration.

Basically, house Republicans voted to defund DC police because even though it's not federal money, they fact that that have the power to pass laws affecting DC means that they can claim these as "cuts". Again, defunding the DC police doesn't help the federal government save a dime. But it's technically a budget cut, just not the budget cut they're supposed to working on. Yes, it's that silly.

In Umpiem Mai camp in Thailand, which is home to more than 10,000 people who fled the brutal civil war in neighbouring Myanmar, a resident and a health worker told ABC that multiple patients who were reliant on oxygen have now died.

“The medical workers left without even taking the equipment and the patients had to return to their homes, including some who had to be carried out,” said Sulaiman Mawlawi, a camp resident. “It was a very tragic moment for us.”

Yes I know, your least-favorite idea goes here. But seriously, someone must have come up with the concept before. Like a bad get-rich-quick scheme could fall into this category, where joining the scheme makes people lose money and become more desperate, so they become more likely to do desperate things like invest more in the scheme. But it can apply to a number of other bad ideas.
