idk with the old shorts this was more true, but now if it's like a quick tips thing or just a preview of a longer video, so long as you're not scrolling shorts and only scarcely engage with the more informative ones, they seem to have a place. Youtube pushes them to be infinitely scrolled clickbait garbage though so that's probably the experience for 95% of people.

If someone complains about a problem they didn't cause, it's not suddenly their responsibility to fix it. You are allowed to just be mad at something unfair. Fixing it would make it better for everyone, you're right. But if I'm irrationally afraid of women and I treat every woman I come across as a potential murderer, that's not fair to them or to me, and it's not their job to fix me.

There's an interesting technology connections video on how analog clocks can be easier to parse how "far" through the hour/day you are with just a quick glance. Hand almost at the top means the hours almost up, for instance.

[–] starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A lot easier version is just short hand = the hour, long hand * 5 = the minutes

A couple bad people really ruin it for everyone. You are the person in the post because you're a regular dude who doesn't deserve to be treated like that.

That's kind of his point...

Wasn't there a meme post about how people don't change their opinions when presented with facts? I think not even explanations, for me it was listening to someone I trusted talk to someone about their experiences. I think it's often just people not imagining themselves as the other person and how they would feel experiencing all that, or just not knowing what the average woman deals with day to day.

Yeah I never really liked the definition of racism = prejudice + power. People can get caught in the crossfire even if they aren't the ones in power, same with sexism. I hate ragebait like this because it's usually divisive for no gain to anyone.

I just don't know what to say because I was that person before. A lot of people men especially are extremely pigheaded and argumentative, and you can be justifiably upset at them. If your goal is to help women and further feminism though, even a "correct" gotcha like this makes people less receptive to feminism. It's just making enemies out of people who might be wrong, stubborn, and combative, which unfortunately is basically everyone at some point in their life.

So then he is misinformed, which many people are. I don't put someone into the "enemy" box for being misinformed or stubborn, that's pretty much the default state of most humans.

Well some people literally just don't realize that other people have problems they don't have, and don't look into it further or are actively told it's not a problem. Source: me from 13 to 16 until I watched a lot of speeches on it and talked to friends irl about it.

The only thing the guy said was wrong was that it's reverse sexism. If he said "so your main concern is improving things for women? That's not egalitarian unless you believe women have it much worse than men today." It's someone misinformed being told he's an enemy. Ragebait

I know several Republicans who will say they love trump and everything he's doing. I say well, conservation is really important to you, and trump just cut funding to wind farms, cut tons of environmental protections, cut regulations for pollution, isn't this against everything you stand for? And they say "well nobody's perfect."

Then they say rfk is going to fix our country's health! and I say he is anti vax this is the foundation he funds to create anti vax propaganda, haven't you been pushing for vaccines your whole life? And they say well I don't think he's really going to do that.

And then they say trump is going to fix the border and I say "weren't you saying for years the problem is illegals and that we should protect refugees? Trump just canceled flights for 1500 refugees who would have been totally legal to be here" and they say well I don't know. 1 day later they're back to saying trump and rfk are great.

I don't think they are faking these beliefs, it's just as soon as a republican does it they choose to not see it. I can understand looking the other way for 1 or 2 things, but when 10+ go against their core values in the course of 3 days... it's just really disappointing to see them value "their guy" over the work they've done for their whole lives.

I can't seem to get freestyle gunz to connect. To note, the launcher downloads everything fine, and the game launches fine (I have to launch using the launcher.exe rather than gunz.exe or the game won't start), but it just gets stuck on "Connecting" and then the game says there was an error connecting to the server. I have followed this tutorial: https://freestylersworld.com/showthread.php?126443-Tutorial-How-to-run-Freestyle-Gunz-on-Ubuntu-with-Lutris and setting lutrus to use any proton version or wine version besides 9.21 I had the same issue of getting to the login page, entering my information, and it says "connecting... 2nd attempt.... 3rd attempt..." and then says failed to connect to server.

Only very old proton versions (<5) fail to launch the game at all. If I run wine cmd then ping google.com I get a regular response. Stable, Staging, and development 9.21 versions of Wine would not launch the game after clicking start on the launcher, and with the lutris configuration running wine 9.21 gives this error: 02bc:err:seh:NtRaiseException Unhandled exception code c0000409 flags 1 addr 0x744b63, but running wine 9.21 with a new configuration and installing those libraries using winetricks hangs after these lines: 02c0:fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformation info_class SYSTEM_FIRMWARE_TABLE_INFORMATION action 0

I have tried running the game through steam's compatibility settings, going from top to bottom until the game no longer launched, and all had the same issue of not being able to connect, but everything else working fine. I also tried running the installer with proton, and had the same issue of not being able to connect. I tried using winetricks without lutris to install msxml3,4, 6, and xmlite, and had the same issue of the game not launching using 9.21 wine and the game launching but not connecting on earlier versions. I found another reddit thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/gunz/comments/1dwkgjq/how_to_run_gunz_the_duel_on_linux/ with someone who seems to have a similar issue of not being able to connect, but no solution.

Something maybe of note: winetricks complains I'm using a 64bit wine prefix and installing 32 bit libraries when I install msxml, but the launcher is 64 bit and the game itself is 32 bit and uses these 32 bit libraries.

I'm just running ethernet, only things that show up on ifconfig are enp5s0 (my ethernet) and lo

I recently watched a video about an unpolled change in old-school runescape that added the ability to change your character's pronouns, as well as have beards as female characters, and the community's reaction to it. Sadly, most of the runescape playerbase is pretty right leaning, with the expected reactions of "this is dumb why would they add this," "why add this unpolled," and "this is a medieval fantasy game not a dating simulator"

I wonder what people's thoughts on this are, as if you are a paying customer for a game, and the game has been promised to only add poll-approved changes, is this unreasonable and why? The game is "old-school runescape," the players are notoriously resistant to change, and are paying to keep the game as they like it. Can you pay to keep your uninclusive game uninclusive? I don't have a great argument against it past "this literally doesn't matter" which won't convince people who believe it does.
