Of course it means something.

Yes, it is a political decision in the sense that politics pervades all human activities and decisions.

But it is obviously a different choice to that of many instances, where they actively use defederation as a tool to shield their users from any political opinions outside the mainstream.

The admins here have chosen not to use defederation as a tool in this way and I applaud them for it.

The admins defedded from SJW because of the quantity of CP and other objectionable material coming from there. It was a matter of their modding workload, not anything to do with politics.

The line in this instance is to not use defederation as a political tool, and that is IMO correct. At least that's one of the main reasons I chose this instance.

This is what Brits do to maintain their monopoly on the whining industry

It's an ad for a shop, that's it.

Accompanied by a picture of a very high end emtb which no one in their right mind would ever commute with. Like that thing must cost at least $10k.

It would actually make their point more to show a cargo bike since they're heavier, but maybe they're not even aware they exist?

There are some massive intrinsic advantages of the CLI though, that apply for everyone, not just leetcoders:

  • The terminal can remember everything you ever did. Forgotten the command you wrote 2 months ago? You can do a search for it with a tool like fzfand run the exact same command again.
  • Communicating with others. GUI programs require step by step instructions, often accompanied by screenshots while CLI may be copy/pasted.
  • Combining programs together. There are a few different techniques for combining CLI programs to search/format output, use secrets without ever having them in the clipboard or on disk, monitor something frequently/constantly etc etc

So while I agree with you that there's plently of elitism around the CLI, you do yourself a disservice if you try to avoid it.

I agree, we should be students, but whom should we be students of? The countries you mention are not monolithic, and they have obviously had changes in political line and objective conditions over the decades.

Mao and the CPC went through much of the struggle that Marx and Engels describe, but they did it by building socialism, not capitalism. I choose to be a student of the China's socialist roaders, not China's capitalist roaders.

This is en excellent book on the subject, with a free PDF download available https://foreignlanguages.press/new-roads/from-victory-to-defeat-pao-yu-ching/

Personally I'm not particularly critical of the China of today, since they're an important opponent to the imperialism of the Global North. But it is very clear to me that their economy is not socialist, despite them practising democratic centralism and having significantly expanded workers rights compared to neoliberal countries.
