“This restructuring program is an important step toward ensuring our ability to deliver our long-term algorithm over the coming two to three years,” Schulten said.

Hmm. Is "algorithm" the new hip word for "business strategy"?

A Lebanese immigrant named Roland Beainy reportedly opened the restaurant chain, "Trump Burger," featuring burgers branded with the president's name, American flags, and joke items themed around his Democratic rivals.

A lot of what Trump has done over his life is to promote his brand and license it. This doesn't sound like the burger guy is licensing the thing, and I'm not sure that Trump is going to be okay with the burger guy doing this sans license.

The political center in Europe is somewhat to the left of the US on a number of issues.

I'm pretty sure that a number of people on the left in Europe are worried about the US because they're concerned that its social or cultural influence might move Europe to the right.

I'm also pretty sure that a number of people on the right in the US feel the same way about Europe, just in the other direction.

That is, the right in Europe and the left in the US are more-likely to be comfortable with each other.

I’m staying in an apartment temporarily

That was four months ago. I'm assuming from that that he was intending to do to do an additional move in the UK, so maybe multiple moves, which probably eats even more time.

EDIT: And it sounds like he was job-hunting as of four months ago:

I told a member of an LGBT organization in York, UK that I would be happy for any help I can get regarding finding me a job above the UK family visa income threshold so my gay daughter can stay here longer than six months after he offered to look over my CV and give me pointers… for the glory of the empire?

So...yeah. I probably wouldn't be spending time moderating Threadiverse communities either if I had all that stuff going on in real life.

This is @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world, for those not familiar; he moderated a number of communities and was a fairly-active poster and commenter, but hasn't commented in three months.

Last I recall seeing from him, he'd said that he'd moved to the UK and was looking for a job. I assume that if he didn't find a job, then he probably doesn't want to be spending a lot of time doing volunteer work moderating communities on the Threadiverse; got higher-priority concerns. If he did find a job, then his free time may have fallen off substantially; switching countries, switching housing, and getting a new job are all things that are probably going to consume time.

A lot of malware-adjacent stuff, like exploit demonstration code, has contained its own malware targeting the user. Probably best to run stuff like that in a container or VM.

I mean, they kind of drive the point home further in the article:

So far, we’ve observed six devices total that we believe were targeted for exploitation by this threat actor, four of which demonstrated clear signatures associated with NICKNAME, and two which demonstrated clear signs of successful exploitation. Interestingly, all of the victims had either previously been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) e.g., they were confirmed to have also been targeted by Salt Typhoon; they were engaging in business pursuits counter to or of particular interest to the CCP; or they had engaged in some sort of activism against the CCP.

https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/suppressor-laws-by-state

Currently, 42 states allow the sale and private ownership of suppressors for personal purposes. The eight states in which it is illegal to purchase and use suppressors are California, Hawaii, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Delaware. It is also illegal to own a suppressor in the District of Columbia.

Anadyr, which lacks permanent road access, is reachable only by aircraft or limited seasonal maritime routes

Hmm.

I'm not sure that that's such a great idea from Russia's standpoint. Yes, Ukraine probably can't just do a repeat of what it did before, which was drive trucks through Russia loaded with drones. But the flip side is that Anadyr Airbase is a mile from the Pacific shore:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/75690390

If Russia has trouble intercepting Ukrainian USVs in the Black Sea, I'm skeptical that they'd be able to intercept USVs dropped off an innocent-looking cargo ship or something, and if those can launch UAVs, now you've got all your valuable eggs in one basket in an area that has a lot less buffer to defend. Probably doesn't even place Ukrainian special operators at risk the way the truck operation did. It's not that far off shipping traffic from Alaska to Asia:

I'd have put them somewhere remote and inland and put air defenses up there. US Minuteman silos are in the center of the landmass, away from oceans.

Gorelkin concluded the post by assuring readers that "the assets of Lesta Games will soon come under state control and then, most likely, they will be handed over to a specialised Russian company".

World of Tanks, like other Steam games, does not run in a sandbox the way mobile games do.

This means that anyone who can control the ability to push updates to a game can run whatever code they want on anyone's system who has the game installed, can access any data on the system that the user running Steam can access. Credentials, email, whatever. All you need is a backdoor or even an intentionally-introduced buffer overflow in the code that talks to the centralized servers.

A publisher's control of a game on Steam is equivalent to access to the computers that play that game.

Just saying.

Let me know if I should post this in another community instead.

I'd guess that !android@lemmy.world or !cybersecurity@infosec.pub is probably going to be more-targeted.

The sole moderator here, @gandolfini_the_grey@lemm.ee, last commented/posted a month ago. I've no idea how closely he's monitoring the situation, but it's possible that if he doesn't log in for the next three weeks, he might not notice what's going on until after the instance has gone down.

If that happens, then he won't have a great way to point to any new community. Maybe monitor !newcommunities@lemmy.world or !communitypromo@lemmy.ca, and he could post an announcement there?
