Are you guys familiar with the metroidvanias community on here?

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I had to look up what birria was, that looks and sounds delicious!

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 3 points 13 hours ago

That's awesome, thanks for sharing!

I'll be honest, I couldn't get into it much myself for some reason but I know that it's pretty well regarded anyway. Keep us updated, if you'd like.

Good, then it should die

Absolutely, you're welcome! Donkey Kong country returns is an incredible game and it came out on the wii originally. Tropical freeze came out after, and both games are among my all time favorites for sure 😁

Filthy casual!

~~I could be wrong, but I think the orange pi neo may have been the first device to feature trackpads (after the steamdeck of course).~~ It hasn't actually released yet though, and apparently it's still in testing stages or something. It will be interesting to see how the Zotac develops as more info becomes available.

Love seeing that custom xbox, that thing is sweet! More custom builds and hardware hacks please! :)

I've been playing Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze lately. The stage 5 levels are starting to get difficult...

No to state owned. It's too susceptible to corruption.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 days ago

Ah, I missed that. Thanks for explaining 👍

Sorry, what's this got to do with Sony?

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I didn't like the shape/feel of the stock sticks either. I never really had any problems with sick drift or anything, but I also didn't actually own the system for very long either.

To remedy this, I had actually bought some stick caps from skull & co (per recommendations from people on here actually) and they were quite excellent.

Personally, I didn't like physically holding the steam deck. In my opinion, it's much too heavy/bulky and even with a high quality comfort grip It just wasn't working for me. Ultimately, I ended up going with an Ayn Odin 2 instead and I've been enjoying my portable/lounging game time much more now. I do miss the ability to play my steam library though. Even though I can still do this with streaming, I just don't like streaming games as much. Other than the weight/size/ergonomics, which most people seem to be just fine with, the only other thing I'd mention is that steam's UI is buggy as hell when you're browsing around the store. I ended up doing most of my browsing on desktop as a result.

All that being said, you can't deny the draw of it. Even though it wasn't for me personally, I still like the system and I'd still recommend it to pretty much anybody. There's a reason Steam Deck is the champ.

Also, look up retro game corp if you aren't familiar. He just released a video today called 'dude, just get a steam deck'

I've noticed that my secondary monitor usually doesn't turn on initially. In order to get it to turn on, I can do a restart after the initial boot and then it will turn on. Any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it? The monitor is hooked up through the laptop's hdmi port.

Fedora 42

KDE Plasma

Wayland

Nvidia RTX 4070

So, I'm hoping to reduce the substantial screen tearing that I'm encountering while watching videos.

One of the suggestions that I have found is to enable wayland, which did help quite a bit (this is the guide I found). However, I've decided I don't really want to use gnome. Gnome seems great, but I've already become accustomed to using cosmic.

Apparently pop os is in a transitionary phase and will eventually update to wayland as the default, but I'm just wondering if there's other desktop environments I should be considering? I see that Fedora now comes with a KDE cosmic variant, but I don't know if this would be any better or not.

Edit:

I ended up installing kde plasma standard desktop environment (which was listed here). Upon booting into the login screen there's a big on-screen keyboard. Hit enter to bypass it. In the dropdown menu on the top left of the screen, there is an option for 'pop on wayland'

So far, everything seems to be working good. I had to change the steam client to the 'proton hotfix' to get one of my games to play.

Anyone else running into this issue?

Upon going back to the feed page from a post page, the feed tends to load in at a different point (higher up) than where it was before. This results in a lot of repetitive scrolling.

Also, I noticed that (when new content is being loaded in?) the scrolling gets stuck in the same spot. Scrolling kind of just glitches on the same spot until it gets past it and then resumes as normal.

Hey, I noticed that the expand/collapse button tends to block text sometimes. Is there any way that it could be made transparent when hovering the mouse over it? Also, the hover text should say 'collapse' when the text has already been expanded.

These are often found on vacuum cleaner cables and such.

I'd like one to clip onto a two wire (two pronged, no ground) flat cable like this one:

Anything like that exist yet?

I'm having some trouble finding an answer for this. While in the gaming mode, just navigating the regular steam ui, the default behavior of the left trackpad acts as a redundant directional pad. I'd like that trackpad to control the screen navigation behavior instead (swipe up/down to scroll vertically, swipe left/right to scroll horizontally).

Is there an easy way to do this?

I have a 'screenshots' folder on my laptop. I would like my steam deck to send the screenshots that I take on it to that same folder, or have it synchronized somehow. What is the best or most intuitive way of accomplishing this?

I would like to know if there's any (automatic) ways of translating the instances which are not my native language (English). I think many of them would be well worth participating in, or at least being able to lightly skim over.

I know many get annoyed by them, and end up filtering/blocking. I don't find myself annoyed by them or anything like that, I just feel like I'm missing out a bit. I think if there was an easier and more inclusive way to join in with these communities it would be a great benefit to the fediverse.
