Dad here. I love putting my kid to bed. For nearly a year she only wanted mommy to do it. But she asks for me mostly now, and I've been soaking it up. I love reading books. I love singing her to sleep. I love the little tired conversations.

I don't love all the attempts to delay bedtime... but we've got a decent routine that's taken most of the fights out of it.

I just wanted to share while I'm still feeling the glow of a successful putdown.

I hope y'all feel that joy when you can. Stay safe out there.

Blocked on all streaming services we have. We thought it was harmless but annoying, but we got kinda spooked by how much that show in particular grabbed our kid's attention and didn't let go. For hours.

She'll get tired of other shows and ask to play, etc. But not with Cocomelon and its knockoffs. We just figured that couldn't be right. Then we read about how it was designed to hook baby brains... and that was the tipping point for us to banish it forever.

Of course, it also saved our sanity from those FUCKING SONGS. Plus I'm a big fan of animation in general, and that show BLOWS in that regard, to the point where I get kind of offended. So yeah. Good riddance.

I don't know if it's all dads, but that is exactly my experience. Once I could have a proper relationship through words, I really felt like a proper dad. But that took until she was closer to 4. Like I loved her, but it was definitely slow growth.

3 weeks in, I absolutely wasn't feeling it, and was worried I'd gotten myself into something I shouldn't have. Lots of doubts for sure.

I'm not sure what started it exactly, but yes, those two had a big public falling out. During which, Elon criticized the budget bill.

Eh. Trump is publicly weighing the idea of deporting Musk. He'll turn on anyone, no matter the previous displays of loyalty.

This does seem aimed at CNN, in particular, imho.

It was lined with plastic.

Ah. Gotcha. For some reason I was stuck on what I presume is the other lawyer giving a "sit" command. An unintentional red herring, perhaps.

Maybe it's obvious, but I genuinely don't get this one.

I can't even do a normal share of an image. It just tried to send a "proxy_image" file instead, which of course isn't anything that people can actually see if you send it anyway.

As an American, I suppose I'm getting used to disappointment.

In this case, it's pretty true. You can view the webauthn protocol, the FIDO2 documentation, etc, that are the foundation of what we know as "passkey" technology.

It's all cryptographic hashes getting sent around, essentially. The more high-grade security implementations are "device-bound passkeys" which do require a minimal amount of hardware registration, though, but you shouldn't ever need to do that unless you're like... accessing sensitive datasets or secure services, at which point you're most likely registering a work device, anyhow.

Unsure if this is the kind of jazz y'all like, but here ya go.
