October 1st, 2025: Rocktober

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Union Razor Cutlery 5/8 Full Hollow (12)
  • Lather: Fanzine Saponifications - Caravaggio - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - The Night Before - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive - Balm

Pretty rough shave with this razor. Stropped it a bunch, but stropping didn't really have the same effect as it did on the razor I used yesterday.

The lather was key in saving my skin from total destruction. Fanzine Saponifications makes great soap.

It depends on if you have a carry on. It's stressful boarding with no more overhead bin space available. The airline will likely make you check your carry on bag if you board towards the end, which means waiting at baggage claim.

This may be a perk to some, but a lot of people don't like checking their luggage.

September 30th, 2025

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Joseph Rogers & Sons Near Wedge (11)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Nag Champa - Soap
  • Post Shave: London Razors - Mountain Laurel - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Jōvan - Musk - EdT

I stropped 80 times before this shave and it paid off. This razor seems to be made of "soft" metal. I think it would be fun to get a Rockwell hardness testing kit to see where each of my razors falls. @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social has of course demonstrated that some razors don't need much stropping, but he has admitted to choosing razors with "hard" steel.

I mentioned in the chat I can't open it in one of my mobile apps, too.

  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Nag Champa - Soap

Wonderful shave. I'm loving the mildness and efficiency of this razor.

Nag Champa is a great scent. I should get a full tub when this sample runs out.

The Zulip based chat is developing nicely ( https://chat.wetshav.ing/ ). We're playing around with organization and we just got approved for a free Community subscription from Zulip which enables mobile notifications to their iOS and Android apps. The chat itself is hosted by me on the same server that runs PieFed, but notifications were paywalled until now. Thanks, Zulip!

September 28th, 2025: So nice

  • Brush: Zenith - 508A XL/Bristle (B35) (MOAR BOAR) 31mm Boar
  • Razor: RazoRock GOAT
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (2)
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Batters Up - Soap
  • Post Shave: Old Spice - Hawkridge - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive Beard & Face - Balm
  • Fragrance: Fanzine Saponifications - Caravaggio - EdP

An excellent shave. Had I changed one thing about this shave, it would be the brush. I'm very close to calling it for this brush, and will most likely be giving it away. I like brushes that can splay, and this brush is a painter. It feels great and is a very nice brush, but no sense in keeping it if I don't like it all that much!
