A few have you have noticed that sometimes contributor to this subreddit and ExMormon parody marvel--Cultural Hall--has removed his YouTube channel.

A few people have reached out to me directly to find out what happened because Cultch and I had a livestream scheduled last night to continue breaking down the Midnight Mormons/Ward Radio debate with Radio Free Mormon.

I figured it would be easier to provide this information once here for anyone interested, rather than answer a ton of individual questions or allow people to speculate on what happened.

Here's what Cultch was comfortable with me reporting on why his channel won't be returning: "online Mormon folks went over the line messing with my family and professional life." Speaking to who is responsible would be nothing more than speculation.

This is just my personal reminder that there are real people, real families, and real lives behind these YouTube channels and podcasts. Please allow this to guide your online behaviors and actions. This Rando, at least, will sincerely miss Cultch's unique blend of humor, irreverence, and compassion.

Anyone else find this hymn creepy as fuck? How is this NOT prophet worship?

For those unfamiliar or never-MO’s, I’ll put the lyrics below:

  1. Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah! Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer. Blessed to open the last dispensation, Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus: Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain. Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren; Death cannot conquer the hero again.

  1. Praise to his mem’ry, he died as a martyr; Honored and blest be his ever great name! Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins, Plead unto heav’n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus

  1. Great is his glory and endless his priesthood. Ever and ever the keys he will hold. Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom, Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus

  1. Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven; Earth must atone for the blood of that man. Wake up the world for the conflict of justice. Millions shall know “Brother Joseph” again.

Chorus

There’s so much there that is so weird or antithetical to Christianity that if I were to write all my commentary, I’d be here all day.

Curious to see what y’all’s thoughts are!

Looking back, I remember joking with a kid about exorcisms when I found my dad's leader handbook, and my mom saying, "Oh that's very rare". But fast forward a dozen years, I found myself on my mission in another country, and the stress causing me to have my very first focal seizures, usually while sleeping. All I knew is that I was having terrible night terrors and waking up with headaches, and completely zoned out and exhausted the rest of the day.

My MP, who was from Utah, and should have known better (I was in Europe, not a third world country), proceeds over the course of several weeks to attempt to cast demons out of me. I realize now what a complete ego trip that would have been for him. He ended up sending me home under the assumption I had unrepented sins allowing Satan to have more hold, and said when I can finally get more sleep I can come back.

To this day, I've felt quite alone in this experience and have never known anyone to have had to go through the same.

BYU has been the only option in my family for generations. Now that I don't believe in the church I don't know where to begin in guiding her in this important decision. She figured out the con about the same time I did and would like to leave church activity when she leaves home. She is leaning towards a Utah school but I wonder if that's just because of familiarity. Will a Utah school be toxic church-wise? Would it be easier for her to find her new tribe at a Utah school and fit in culturally with a high exmo population?

Other relevant info:

We live in the west (not Utah), she has strong academics, politically liberal.

Apparently the church is going to roll out temple reccomends for your phone. The number of people in the comments who are virtue signalling about how they leave their phone in the car while at the temple or even at Sunday service seems very on par for the holier than thou moridor.

I was having a somewhat good theological debate with a Mormon friend and after an hour or two of texting I kinda just agreed and said at the end of the day we believe what we believe but he kept just going on and saying there's proof of god and all this. like bro I do not care anymore and it was almost like he was trying to convert me 🤦

if I as an agnostic atheist tried to unpromptedly convert him to stop believing he would be pissed and I'm not gonna do that cuz he's happy with his religion but I was not happy in it so I left. shit just feels disrespectful to me, sorry I'm lowk ranting but I'm sure some of yall can relate 😭

TW: Abuse

Update to my last post.

I've been reaching out to the stake president & bishop expressing concern about an abuser in the ward being given a calling that will occasionally allow him access to children.

The stake president responded this evening, saying that he is unwilling to further discuss the matter over text. The only way he will continue the discussion is in-person. He also said that I'm making assumptions about the abuser's calling (ward missionary) that he wants to clarify, and lastly he said that he has questions for me that he will only ask in-person.

Not sure what to think of this. I don't really want to meet in-person. Is there any way I can possibly get him to keep it on text?

Growing up in a mormon household, did you ever feel/ sense/ see something paranormal in your home for which you had to get the church's help? Pleeeease share how it went down!

Was there an exorcism- but mormon style? Did they cite the book of mormon with references about dispelling spirits? Etc etc ...

Exmo here, and since this crossed my mind I can't stop thinking of it. Omggggggg just share it already!!!

If someone lies and says they are a full tithe payer when they haven’t paid any tithing and says they pay directly to Salt Lake, is there a way for the bishop or stake president to track or look it up? Or if you say you donated stock, could they look that up?

I commented on this in another post, but I was so excited I decided to make a separate one. For those unaware, the church released 3 more Gospel Topics Essays addressing church finances, temples, and violence. Yay! They are as ~~obfuscating~~ open and ~~horrendously misleading~~ honest as the church knew how to be!

Along with the new essays, they ~~snuck in~~ made another change to the organization of all the Gospel Topics Essays on their website: To make learning about any and all gospel related questions simpler, they have kindly consolidated everything into one convenient location called "Topics and Questions." Don't worry, it only takes 4 or 5 clicks from the church's landing page to reach these, maybe more if you weren't exactly sure what you were looking for.

To save everyone time, you can find this new Topics and Questions page here:

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics?lang=eng

Now you can conveniently find the 3 new essays (Church Financial Administration, Temples, and Religion vs. Violence) - as well as any of the other ~~less-than~~ enlightening essays - in this singular list of 225 total topics. (I counted them! 225 topics in one long list; feel free to +/- a few to account for human error.)

Anyway, don't fret: if pesky questions of faith brought you to this wonderful list, there are around 10 videos/essays preceding your topic smorgasbord, lovingly added to ~~manipulate~~ guide you through your studies of any topic you might happen upon. That way, you can be sure you retain a ~~blindly obedient~~ faithful and ~~brainwashed~~ Celestial perspective!

Isn't the MFMC great?!

Original Title: BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff (not Mormon) accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit. Plaintiff says Provo police encouraged her not to do anything because, as they claimed, "sexual assault victims never get justice." Complaint is available at floodlit.org.

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit:

https://floodlit.org/a/g062/

Jake Retzlaff is not Mormon (he’s Jewish). Floodlit created this case report to help the public get accurate information about the allegations made against him in a 2025 civil lawsuit. Brigham Young University (BYU) is owned and operated by the Mormon church and approximately 98 percent of its students are Mormons. We’ve been asked multiple times to provide clarity about the Retzlaff lawsuit.

On May 21, 2025, a civil lawsuit filed in Salt Lake County, Utah accused Jake Retzlaff, the starting quarterback for Brigham Young University (BYU), of sexual assault.

The complaint alleges that Retzlaff raped, strangled, and bit a woman in November 2023 at his home.

The plaintiff claimed she met Retzlaff through social media, visited his residence, and was assaulted after staying to watch a movie.

She alleged that Provo police discouraged her from pursuing charges, claiming “sexual assault victims never get justice.”

A rape kit was performed at a hospital days after the alleged incident, but she initially did not name Retzlaff to police, later identifying him after learning of another complaint against a BYU football player.

Floodlit has obtained a copy of the civil complaint. Portions are included in the sources section of his Floodlit case report:

https://floodlit.org/a/g062/#sources

According to the complaint:

“At some point after speaking to the police, an officer reached out to [the plaintiff] asking for the name because someone else filed a complaint against a football player and the police wanted to see if it was the same person.

“At that point, Jane Doe A.G. shared Retzlaff’s name, and the Provo police then encouraged her not to do anything because, as they claimed, ‘sexual assault victims never get justice.'”

We are seeking information about other allegations of sexual assault involving BYU athletes. Please contact us with any information.

This is my other account.

I start:

  • I was silenced/yelledwhen I wanted to give my opinion both at church, HE, and at home.
  • That my home is so focused on church that it no longer feels like home.
  • Not being able to do anything on Sundays.
  • All the hate and fear the church has caused me regarding being gay.
  • Finding out about the electroshock therapy they did to people like me.
  • That the apostles discriminated against us (exmos) and people in the LGBT community.
  • Applying for the mission so that maybe the Heavenly Father would cure my homosexuality.
  • That my parents themselves have told me that I'm a mistake and that people like me should never have existed.
  • Forced to go to the mutuals (I never liked them, I only felt stress and fear).

Alright, so, this happened around a year ago, so, I was walking up the stairs after the lesson was done (we do seminary in a basement at someones house) and one of the girls there pushed me, so i fell down and slipped a bit and she said "Get up, loser" and i was like "What is your problem?? at 6:50 in the morning? Really?" and do you want to know the worst part? The homeowner/ teacher scolded me for "being distruptive to the spirit" and ofc i dont care, i didnt ask to be pushed and fall off the stairs! I told the homeowner my side of the story, but she wasent having it. And of course the following day the Mormon girl was giving me the stink eye, and also yelled "(name) Has Earbuds in!" but i geuss nobody cared so nobody really said anything, makes me wonder, i feel like mormons who act like that are 100% favored rather than just me, who ACTUALLY tries to improve myself, and not look like a childish douchebag. Sorry for the rambling, but it feels good getting it out here. PIMO out.

I wrote this as a letter to anyone who came home early from a mission. Whether it was a month, a year, or even just before the mission started. This is for you. As someone who left my mission almost a decade ago, I know the guilt. I know the anxiety. I know what it feels like when someone asks, “Where did you serve?” and your stomach drops. You are not alone.

To the ones they called “pitiful” this is for you. You didn’t fail. You survived. You didn’t “give up.” You made a decision, maybe the hardest decision you’ve ever made, to protect your mind, your body, your heart. And I need you to know something: YOU did the right thing. There’s a quote and maybe you’ve heard it, maybe it’s haunted you. That came from a man once idolized by many of us. Jeff Holland. He said early returned missionaries were among “the most pitiful people” in the world. He wasn’t talking to your face, but he WAS talking about you. About me. About all of us who left missions early because something deep inside us was breaking. He said it like we were a warning, like we were a disappointment. But here’s what he didn’t say: He didn’t see you crying in the shower because your companion never let you speak. He didn’t feel the knot in your chest that wouldn’t go away for weeks. He didn’t see the way your testimony unraveled every night while you stared at a ceiling fan and begged god to make it feel true again. He didn’t hear you sobbing on an apartment couch at 2 a.m., wondering if you’d ever feel normal again. He didn’t know your name. He didn’t know your pain. But you know. You remember. And still, you came home. You walked off that plane knowing you’d be greeted with silence, with confusion, with passive-aggressive comments, with “bless your heart” looks and bishops who didn’t know what to do with you. You came home to people who whispered that you just weren’t “valiant enough.” But you are so fucking brave. You’re brave for telling the truth. Brave for not white-knuckling your way into a breakdown. Brave for valuing your life more than someone else’s expectations. You left when staying would’ve shattered you. Let me tell you what I wish someone had told me: You don’t owe the Church your sanity. You don’t owe your parents an explanation. You don’t owe your stake president your trauma, served up in detail so he can “discern” if you were righteous enough to leave. You don’t owe anyone anything. But you deserve peace. You deserve healing. You deserve to be proud of the moment you said, “Enough.” Because that moment wasn’t a failure. It was the beginning. So here’s to the early returned missionaries who don’t show up in Ensign articles or Sunday School lessons. The ones who quietly carried years of shame. The ones who still flinch when someone says, “Where did you serve?” The ones who didn’t “finish” the mission, but somehow lived through it. You are not pitiful. You are powerful. And you are not alone.

With so much love: A fellow early returned missionary who finally stopped apologizing.

I hope I was the only one taught this, but I have a feeling it was common practice. It creeped me out so bad, and boy did it kill the spice in the bedroom. I have no idea how this even got started except maybe it was some spinoff of repentance being between you and the lord, or that he needed to be involved in every aspect of your life. Any insight as to why this became a thing would be appreciated. I have a feeling there were plenty of GC talks about it.

Also, would love to hear any other bizarre nonsense you were taught about marriage.
