Can you tell which one was made first?

I used a custom color chart for this too since I wanted a different shape. The pattern I paid for is still bee-related (ravelry link)

To be honest I'm a bit unhappy with how much the floats show through and I tried different strategies to no avail. I think this little detail on the thumb I added is cute though:

Also the first time I worked with a pattern holding stitches and picking them up later.

Anyone got a super short and easy project to learn how to do cables on?

This is my progress on the Pierre Shawl (ravelry link). I'm posting this to say goodbye to it and gain the strength to unravel the many many hours of work it took me to get here. I got all the way to section 8 of 10 on this, and it is by far the largest and most involved piece I've ever attempted to knit.

I started this knit around 3 or 4 years ago as a gift for my (now ex) mother-in-law. After a couple weeks' worth of hard work, I had to put it on hold and never really picked it back up, mainly due to my dissatisfaction with the colors I picked not making as smooth a gradient as I wanted. Now that I no longer have ties to the person I originally knit it for, and because I neither wear shawls nor things in these colors, it is a bit useless to keep the project indefinitely on hold.

The yarn is some of the nicest in my collection (Berocco DK vintage) and these are also the only pair of circulars I own at the moment. I know it makes more sense to bite the bullet and unravel it all so I can make use of the materials elsewhere, but I'm struggling to do so because I'm so proud of what I created and know I'll never see it finished. So I figured I'd share it here! I'm particularly proud of how even my stitches are, especially at the end of the project!

This project taught me a lot about what I'm able to learn and do as a knitter and I'm looking forward to taking the skills I learned from this project to make new things now that I've picked up knitting again (I tend to go on long hiatuses from my fiber arts hobbies and I'm back on a crocheting and knitting kick).

Pattern: Sugar Frost Socks

When the directions for knitting the 4th Doctor's scarf were posted, I mentioned in a post that I had the one my mom made for me ~40 years ago.

I said it had never been washed and it needed to be.

I finally did it. Cold water in the laundry room sink, a little bit of woolite, and some swishing. A couple of rinses, and some gentle squeezing to get as much water as I could out.

The tricky part, of course, was laying it out flat to air dry.

A couple weeks ago I (37/F) landed my first job in a proper office setting (after being unemployed almost a year, so yay me!). I had worked only in the industrial field so far and my work attire was basically jeans and corporate shirts paired with very stylish safety shoes LOL.

I'm in the southern hemisphere and it's like 80°F outside but my social anxiety is already making me plan for colder weather (hoping I'll still be employed by then). So I was wondering if you could give me some insight on incorporating handknitted items into my office attire, whether it's specific patterns or just general recs.

I'd describe the style at work as business very casual because it's a tech company. Most of my coworkers wear sneakers (women tend to choose 'dressier' ones, but guys often wear Vans and Chuck Taylors).

I was thinking of knitting myself a Lulu Slipover to use over shirts and maybe a cardi.

I read somewhere that fingering and sport yarn weight were office appropiate and more bulky yarns were not, is that really so? Are cables ok? Lace?

Edit: Thank you everyone for your insights! I've decided I'll try the Monlight Dancer cardi following @proudblond@lemmy.world's suggestion for a shawl collar cardi and the Fade of Beads tee maybe? (I'll be getting that pattern free with my ticket to an event, so I'll probably knit it anyway even if it's not to wear at the office lol).

My former inlaws bought me this yarn on their anniversary trip to Hawaii a few years ago. If I recall correctly it’s bamboo and cotton. Finally decided to use it for myself!

I bought this kit from Aliexpress. I’m not very picky about my needles, but I do have have the Chiaogoo red ones. I wanted a set to travel with and these seem good so far, which is kind of surprising.

Remember those “Martians” from Sesame Street? A friend asked me to make a couple of these for their kid. My first one is on the left and the pattern photo is on the right. I’m going to try to knit some eye balls instead of using ping pongs, we’ll see how that goes
