Mar-a-Lago was built in the 1920s, predating post-Andrew Miami-Dade building code. Given Trump's ownership of it since '85, I wouldn't count on it having been updated for modern roofing code. Lucky for him, the area's only expecting 26 mph winds tomorrow, but I wouldn't count on the property surviving a direct hit from a major hurricane. Definitely wouldn't choose to shelter in it.

Except that he actually lives there, which means that the person he cares about most in the world lives there. He has to protect that guy at all costs.

Not to mention if it has insurance, which is likely required for the business, the insurance requires roofs and everything else to have higher wind tolerances than most of the country. 180 mph tolerance have to wrap the coast of Miami if I remember. 150 for inland places like Orlando
