Nowdays people look back at the Roman empire and are amazed at how technologically advanced it was

In the future people will look back at the US empire and be amazed at how supremely idiotic it was

People look back at the Roman empire and are both amazed at how technologically advanced it was AND how supremely idiotic it was. Remember those cool lead pipes they used?

We'll do the same with the US. "Man they made some really cool shit before destroying themselves"

Well, to be fair, lead is very slow-killing, so it's hard to find out it's toxic. Even modern societies used lead in children's toys until recently.

Our lead pipes are the microplastics we've consumed our whole lives

[–] Jonathan12345@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 2 years ago

Yep. Except this time, the people responsible know perfectly well what it does.

PFAS are probably worse. Microplastics are relatively inert. Ofc we have other issues like arsenic in rice.

Also, while it was not the best idea to use lead for the pipes, their water was also very hard and all those pipes quickly started building up limestone on the inside, thus costing the pipes and preventing much lead from getting into the water. So the kind of got lucky with that.

Lol I've lived in two apartments now that had mandated lead paint warnings for residents. More things change and all that shit.
