A fursona in the thumbnail, really?

[–] shiny_idea@aussie.zone 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a big part of this blogger's online identity. Offline identity too, based on this quote from the same blog:

... a handful of strangers complained incessantly about my inclusion of furry art on my furry blog, because they felt self-conscious showing my writing to their boss.

Meanwhile, I’ve taken fursuit selfies at professional infosec and cryptography conferences.

There’s an old saying: “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

The actual luminaries of software security and cryptography quite simply do not give a fuck.

That is to say: They don’t have any of the same hang-ups about my blog’s furry art (or even being openly gay) that some commentators fear from their bosses and/or peers.

Retrospective: Five Years Blogging About Cryptography as a Gay Furry Online

So in that light, it makes sense that the thumbnail is what it is.

I would find it equally weird if someone had a big titty anime girl or massive veiny cock art on their cryptography blog.

It’s weird because its unexpected, out of place, and not related to the actual content people might be interested in.

As for their opinion on security and cryptography luminaries… well it’s an opinion that I doubt has much basis in reality.

People not being rude about it doesn’t make it any less weird.

I would find it equally weird if someone had a big titty anime girl or massive veiny cock art on their cryptography blog.

I'd find that odd too because that would be rather explicit.

Meanwhile the images on this blog wouldn't be out of place in a saturday morning cartoon.

What about a big titty anime girl is more explicit than a fursona? I never said naked.

Unless you're implying that art can have a sexual context without being overt.

So the "massive veiny cock" that you put on equal footing is also clothed?

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world -1 points 4 weeks ago

Why not? Freddy Mercury had no issue showing off massive schlong while fully clothed.

if you're going to be this judgey you'll never make it far in any tech related field. Programmers have a disproportionate number of trans women, infosec and it has a ridiculous number of furries, sysops has a large number of puppy play and pony play advocates; and we all know what those filthy fucking database admins are into.

You're a peripheral observer to fields where skill and capability matters more than anything else, and they have the wealth to explore whatever they want.

You've just made a bunch of assumptions and you're absolutely wrong.

I have been very successful with my career in Cyber Security, and don't have to deal with anyones kinks in the workplace as you've claimed because I work with professionals who separate their work and personal lives.

It would seem the peripheral observer here is you.

This matches my experience in my career as well (various forms of IT into sysadmin/sysengineering), for what it's worth. Plenty of ways to express yourself and your individuality without bringing something that has strong sexual kink connotations into things.

And whatever your opinion on the fairness of it, you can't argue that furry art doesn't carry a strong strong association with the sexual fetish side of things.

[–] superniceperson@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

A) being a furry is a lifestyle, not a kink

B) furry art is 99% sfw.

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

In human sexuality, kinkiness is the use of sexual practices, concepts or fantasies that are not conventional.

I would hardly call furries conventional.

You have zero way to prove your claim regarding the amount of sfw vs nsfw content has been created.
