AOC is the last person you would accuse of being performative.

she's a politician. I like her. but she is a politician.

so.... not the last person.

you people really need to be more pessimistic and skeptical about the world. we wouldn't be in this fucking mess if you were.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Let me guess, you would want an armed revolution like the other guy.

[–] RenLinwood@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

I like actions that actually get results which for us in the states means a general strike at the bare minimum, which the government would almost certainly respond to with violent force anyway because that's literally always what happens, so yeah an armed revolution whether we like it or not

no. at this point i think an armed revolution would be completely moronic. (although when compared to the outlook you'd have, if doing nothing, its understandable)

However.

I do think people should COLLECTIVELY cease to pay taxes. even if 30% of the population just stopped paying federal taxes, the government would be completely crippled. You would be able to force the fascists to the table. You would be able to force them out.

If the governments of blue states supported this idea, this would be even easier.

Armed revolution is asinine in comparison.... Anyway. I'm already doing my part.

Was there a point you were trying to make?

And how do you think the government might respond to a large-scale refusal to pay taxes? Maybe we have some previous examples to look at?

[–] MangioneDontMiss@feddit.nl 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Small scale bullshit. I very highly doubt the government could mount an effective response if 81 million people were to stop paying taxes. But hey, good luck!

[–] RenLinwood@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You say that as if we aren't commenting on a very straightforward example of her doing exactly that

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Performative implies pretending to be proactive but the end results are inconsequential. Like Cory Booker's filibuster which achieved minimally. AOC had been touring the country with Bernie Sanders rallying the working class, the base which the Dems abandoned, and even got support from the Republican voters they visited. AOC's encouragement to mock the Republican politicians is simply drawing more ammunition from her arsenal of actually being engaged.

Right, so… like every third-party candidate that promise to move mountains every fourth year, and then disappear for the next three?

[–] RenLinwood@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Someone else did it too" isn't a very good excuse for anything

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I didn’t say someone else did it. I said someone did it. You are wrongly attributing to AOC, what third party candidates do every election year.

AOC brings receipts and backs her shit up.
